BEFORE YOU START:
*Quickly read over instructions before beginning.
*Get your fabric ready. I suggest preparing it exactly how you will care for it- meaning if you’re going to
throw it in the dryer...wash and dry it now! It will prevent any shrinkage, and color bleeding!
*You are free to sell products made from the pattern on a small home based scale. I would LOVE for
you to cite that it was a ‘Made for Mermaids’ pattern in your listing! Also, let me know on my Facebook

*Please check the FAQS and Troubleshooting page if you have any problems!
*As always, back stitch when starting and ending a seam.
*All seam allowances are included and are 1/4” unless otherwise stated.

PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS:
*This pattern has no trim pages. Just butt the
grey lines together, match triangles and tape.
Rectangle measurements are given in the tutorial.
*This pattern includes layered pattern tiles that
allow you to choose only the sizes you wish to
print. In Adobe Reader, open the file, then click
on the layers icon on the left. Click on the eyeball
to turn size layers on or off. Be sure to leave the
bottom layer that says “Leave checked”, on.
*Print either “actual size” or “custom scale: 100%”.
Always measure your 1” squares to
ensure proper printing.

SUPPLY LIST:
*Fabric content will affect the drape and fit. Light to medium weight knit with at least 30% stretch. A lighter
fabric with more drape will fit much looser. Cotton jersey, poly jersey, poly blends, bamboo, modal, rayon
blends, brushed poly, and light weight cotton lyrca are recommended.
*5/8” Fold over elastic
*Optional- 1/2” wash away hem tape
*Ballpoint, stretch, or jersey needle. Always use a serger or stretch stitch. Remember, the stretch of
the fabric always goes horizontally around the body. If you do not have a serger, suitable stitches are
zig-zag, lightning bolt, triple stretch or overlock stitch. When using a straight stitch with knit, increase the
stitch length to allow for stretch. Remember, do not backstitch when using the overlock stitch! Knit twin
needle optional.
*Basics: Thread, pins, scissors, ruler, hem gauge.

FABRIC REQUIREMENT CHART: Approximate by yard. Does not account for any shrinkage, print matching, or
off grain fabric. I always use my left over scraps from my daughter’s dress to put together the dolly dress! It
takes VERY little fabric for these!

MEASUREMENT CHART:
Measurements are given LENGTH x WIDTH! Stretch needs to go with the width of the fabric. Iron all
pieces after you cut. All in INCHES.

STEP 1: CUTTING AND MARKING

Assemble pattern and cut pieces. Cut 1 neck binding using the measurements in the cutting chart, cut 1
front bodice on fold, cut 2 back bodices (mirror images), 2 sleeves on fold, or 2 flounce sleeves on fold.

STEP 2: SHOULDER SEAMS

With right sides together, matching raw edges, stitch front to back at shoulders. Press seam towards
back.

STEP 3: SLEEVES
Press the hem of the sleeve up 1/2” towards the wrong side of the fabric and edgestitch in place.
Note- the flounce sleeve does not have a hem allowance. For the short sleeve option skip to the next
step.
HALF OR LONG SLEEVE SHORT SLEEVE

Lay bodice out flat with right side up. With right sides and raw edges together, match center of sleeve-
to shoulder seam and pin sleeve or sleeve flounce in place. Stitch. Repeat with other sleeve.

STEP 4: NECK BINDING
Quarter the neck binding. Fold in half lengthwise to find center. Place a pin. Open back up and match
raw edges to center pin to find quarter points. Set aside.

Quarter the neck opening the same way. Fold in half to find the center. Place a pin. Open back up and
match each raw edge to center pin to find quarter points. Place pins.

With WRONG side of bodice to WRONG side of FOE neckband, place edge of neckline just inside
crease of FOE. Matching quarter points, pin and stitch FOE to bodice using a narrow zig-zag stitch,
stretching the FOE slightly to fit neckline. DO NOT STRETCH THE NECKLINE!

Fold FOE along crease so the raw edge of the neckline is enclosed. Stitch with a lengthened straight
stitch or narrow zig zag stitch.

STEP 5: SIDE SEAMS

With right sides together, matching raw edges, sleeve seams, and hem edges, stitch front to back.
Repeat on other side. If using a serger, be sure to finish the serger tails. Fold the tail back toward the
sleeve and secure in place using a small bar tack stitch. Trim serger tail. Repeat on other side.

STEP 6: HEMMING
Press 1/2” toward wrong side along hem edge. Edgestitch to hold in place. Tip: You could use a hem
tape on the hem to help stabilize and provide a more professional looking finish.

STEP 7: VELCRO FINISH

Press center raw edge of back bodices to wrong side 1/2”. Edgestitch in place. Note: For a more pro-
fessional looking finish if you do not have a coverstitch, finish the raw edges with a serger or overlock

Cut velcro to same length as bodice. Stitch hook (rough) side of velcro to RIGHT side of back bodice
piece, along center edge that you just edgestitched in place. Tip: I like to trim my velcro down to 1/2”
so it fits neatly on the back side of the bodice. Stitch loop (soft) side of velcro to WRONG side of other
back bodice piece, along center that you just edgestitched in place.
