Definition of World Literature
World literature can be defined as works of literature that have been

created, distributed, and circulated beyond their country of origin. A

literary work can be called as a world literature is when it have an

internal reader and has been transleted to several languages.

Southeast Asia and Islam. Thinking of the "world" is
essential to comprehending both; this includes seeing
Southeast Asia as a crossroads leading to faraway horizons
and Islam as a universal religion.

History

Habbiburahman El-Shirazy is the author of Ayat-Ayat Cinta, a famous novel with a lot of
reader not just in Indonesia but world. He was born in Semarang, Middle Java, at 30
September 1976. After he finish his college in The Institute for Islamic Studies Kairo, he
back to Indonesia and be one of the contributor of Ensiklopedia Intelektualisme
Pesantren: Potret Tokoh dan Pemikirannya. He is also a teacher in MAN 1 Yogyakarta and
a lecturer in Abu Bakar Ash Shiddiq Institute for Teaching Arabic and Islam UMS
Surakarta. Apart from writing novels, he has written theatrical
poetry and directed "Dhikr Dajjal" with the Mbambung
Theater.

Ayat-Ayat Cinta
Ayat-Ayat Cinta is an Indonesian-language
novel written by Habiburrahman El Shirazy,
which was first published in 2004 through
Basmala and Republika publishers. This novel
contains 418 pages and has succeeded in
becoming one of the best-selling fiction novels
in Indonesia, which has printed up to 160
thousand copies in just three years.

The novel "Ayat-Ayat Cinta" tells the story of the life of an Indonesian student in Egypt named Fahri. He took
lectures at Al Azhar University, Cairo City. Fahri is known to be simple, has good morals, and adheres to Islamic
teachings. His obedience was quite visible in his behavior. In fact, when Fahri had to interact with the opposite
sex, he took great care of himself because he was not a mahram. Until one day, Fahri married a Muslim woman
from Turkey named Aisha in an Islamic way. He knows him through the ta'aruf process. And, after marriage,
Fahri's life became elevated. After marriage, he live luxurious life because Aisha is the daughter of a large
company owner with billions in profit per month. Besides that, he has a beautiful, pious, and rich wife. However,

all that luxury did not change Fahri's behavior, who had good morals.

One day, Fahri has to stay in prison. He was slandered for raping a woman he never did. Fahri remained patient
while looking for a solution by praying to his God through worship in prison.
In prison, Fahri continues to study. His teacher was a professor of economics who was imprisoned because he
often made scathing criticism. Not only that, Fahri received a trial, namely an offer to bribe related parties so
he could be released from prison. At one time he was even tempted to testify falsely. But faith confirms him to
continue to act according to Islamic teachings. Finally, a way out came and made Fahri free from punishment.
People who previously gave false testimony, are willing to reveal the true facts.
