In some countries, people are forced to retire when they reach a certain age.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of this? Give reasons for your
answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or
experience.

Retirement age in Japan is set to 65 years old in Japan. Even though they are many
benefits in not having a retirement age, I strongly believe having a retirement age is
good for business growth. In this essay, I would like to discuss my thoughts on the
topic of retirement age.

Firstly, I would like to address the advantage of having a retirement age. Having a
retirement age will give opportunities for younger generations to grow. At the same
time, it gives them hope, realizing the future is in young people’s hand. When older
people stays and refuse to retire from an organization, it prevents younger people
from moving up the ladder in that organization. Young mind and idea are essential
to survive in today’s fast paced world. When older people stay at the top of
organization, that organization will be trapped with old mentality and ideas ruled by
old mind. Currently in Japan, where birth-rate is continuously declining, is running
short in financial resources for pension. And that might be a disadvantage of having
retirement age.

When considering growth of organization and younger people’s future, it is important

for older people to retire and give up their position. Which enables younger
generation to build their future, motivating them to work harder to reach higher goals.
Therefore, I strongly believe having a retirement age is a beneficial system for both
country and company.
