FDD and TDD Interworking Policy

Requirements to be fulfilled and issues to Policies

be resolved: ⚫ Cell reselection and camping
⚫Requirement that UEs need to initiate ⚫ Coverage-based FDD and TDD interworking
services in proper cells with the load balanced ⚫ MLB-based FDD and TDD interworking
⚫Issues related to service discontinuity Note: Currently, FDD and TDD interworking is performed

⚫Issues related to load imbalance as inter-frequency mobility.

Cell Selection & Reselection: MLB

• UE camp on 20MHz cells operating at two L2300 TDD frequency. • L2300 towards FDD UE and PRB based MLB activated in all carrier
• Frequency bands are in sequence form to their priority.
• L2300>FDD L2600 FDD 1800 FDD 2100
5
Cell Reselection and Camping

Typical FDD+TDD Networking

• TDD network operating in a high frequency band with large bandwidth and discontinuous
coverage.
• FDD network operating in both high and low frequency bands with continuous coverage
No Camping Policy Name Advantage and disadvantge

1 TDD-Preferred camping • Advantage: The TDD network uses a high frequency band with large bandwidth. The
high frequency band serves as the capacity layer to absorbs Ues
• Disadvantage: since the TDD coverage is discontinuous, there are a large number of
inter frequency reselection of Ues in IDLE mode
2 FDD-Preferred camping • Advantage: FDD network provide wide coverage to ensure successful access and
mobility for connections of Ues
• Disadvantage : The TDD network carries less traffic

• Note: This is the reason TDD Cell selection in Idle Mode and connected mode have high priority.

OBJECTIVES

15
OBJECTIVES

• Improve the L2300 coverage area to capture more traffic in L2.3 TDD
• Improve the downlink throughput
• Improve the spectral efficiency
• Improve the Load balancing between FDD and TDD Network
• Improve the L2.3 TDD KPI
• After implementing RSRQ all the L2300 KPIs improved.
• Payload increased up to 20% in downlink and uplink
• Throughput initially degraded due to payload, but later on it recovered with the trials
and tuning.
• Target was to achieve more payload in L2300 in a good coverage area and its
fulfilled.
