FACILITY SPOTLIGHT:

MGS IRELAND
MGS Mfg. Group expanded its manufacturing facilities in January by incorporating a new location in Leixlip, Ireland. Formally named MGS Mfg. Group, Ltd., the facility is the fifth MGS production molding plant and the companys first outside of North America. a cost-eective manufacturing solution, says Paul Manley, Chief Financial Officer of MGS Mfg. Group. The strategic location of the facility, combined with the engineering and development resources of MGS, translates to a time-tomarket response to our customers serving the Irish, United Kingdom and Western European healthcare, consumer and electronics markets. According to Michael Cummins, General Manager of MGS Mfg. Group, Ltd., the facility currently employs 24 people and runs 12 hour shifts, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As new programs are awarded and production ramps up over the next few months, the employee count is certain to rise in order to meet workload demands.

MGS Ireland will manufacture products for the computer/ electronics market, along with healthcare and consumer products. The 45,000+ square foot manufacturing facility officially opened in June and currently houses eight electric injection molding machines, including seven Fanuc and one Netstal ranging from 100 to 350 tons. Future plans include the construction of an ISO Class 8 Clean Room for molding and assembly operations. To date, MGS has spent approximately $2 million in capital investments to open the facility. The facility plans to add an on-site tool shop to support production mold preventive maintenance, repairs, engineering changes and the inspection of incoming transfer molds. This service will also be oered to area OEMs to provide maintenance repairs of molds they run in-house. Additionally, the facility will provide multishot molding services through the use of Universal Multishot Systems equipment. Planned value-added operations include sonic welding and decorating, along with manual and automated assemblies. This expansion has allowed the company to increase productivity to better serve its customers, both in quantitative and qualitative measures. MGS Mfg. Group, Ltd. provides

TECSTAR DE MEXICO RECEIVES C-TPAT CERTIFICATION


On July 15, TecStar de Mexico was certied by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as a partner in the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT).

MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENT


In the first half of 2011, MGS Mfg. Group made approximately a $6 million dollar capital investment on new equipment for its tooling and molding operations. This includes equipment and ancillaries for the startup of the new Ireland facility. Chief Operations Officer Jeff Kolbow stated, As one of North Americas largest tool shops and a full service provider to the plastics industry, we realize the importance of making frequent capital investments to keep our facilities updated with the latest technologies. It is estimated that MGS will invest an additional $3.5$4 million throughout the second half of the year. A substantial portion of the investment will be utilized for the addition of 10 new Arburg injection molding machines for the ISO Class 8 Clean Room in Germantown.

C-TPAT is a voluntary government-business initiative that builds cooperative relationships that strengthen and improve overall international supply chain and U.S. border security. C-TPAT is widely recognized as one of the most effective means of providing the highest level of cargo security through close cooperation with international supply chain businesses such as importers, carriers, consolidators, licensed customs brokers, and manufacturers. Through this initiative, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is asking businesses to ensure the integrity of their security practices and communicate and verify the security guidelines of their business partners within the supply chain. TecStar is making a vital contribution to help secure the borders and ensure the continued free ow of international trade.

WCTC AND MGS PARTNER TO CREATE NEW PROGRAMS


Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) and MGS Mfg. Group have created a workshop where representatives can discuss strategies on how to attract high school and college students to the wide range of careers that are available in the manufacturing industry. The initial workshop took place on July 21st at the MGS Technical Center. In attendance from WCTC were Mike Shiels, Associate Dean of Manufacturing Technology; Jean Donovan, Co-Op Education Manager; Bob Novak, Tool & Die Instructor; and Dana LaFontsee, Corporate and Community Training Account Manager. Some of the ideas discussed include the following:
