be a "City on a Hill" and why?

The third reason, “that every man might have need of others, and from hence they

might be all knit more nearly together in the bonds of brotherly affection,” is the most

important principle if America is to be a “City on a Hill.” It shows how no man is better

than another no matter how wealthy they are, or how honorable. That everyone is

created equal.

2) What are two Enlightened thinkers and what has been their impact on America?

François Marie Arouet, or Voltaire, was probably one of the most influential

philosophers. He published more than 70 books, and was a vast believer in freedom of

speech. One of his most famous quotes, “ I do not agree with a word you say but will

defend to the death your right to say it.”

John Locke impacted America greatly as well. He was a philosopher that believed

people could learn from experience and improve themselves. He was fundamental to

the U.S Declaration of Independence because of his belief that people are born with the

three natural rights: life, liberty, and property.

3) What trait or principle is the most important American trait or principle that has come

as result of the Enlightenment and why?

Freedom of speech is the most important American trait that has come as a result of the

Enlightenment. That is because people may speak their opinion without having the fear

of being prosecuted. Also, it helps humanity grow for the better.
