1. A student conducts an experiment using a convex lens of focal length 20 cm and an object of height 15 cm.

He placed the object at 25 cm from the lens. Can the image be formed on a screen?
(a) Yes, because a real image will be formed.
(b) Yes, because an erect image will be formed.
(c) No, because an inverted image will be formed.
(d) No, because a virtual image will be formed.
2. In the following questions, a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement of reason (R). Mark the
correct choice as:
(a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R) is the correct explanation of assertion (A).
(b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true but reason (R) is not the correct explanation of assertion (A).
(c) Assertion (A) is true but reason (R) is false.
(d) Assertion (A) is false but reason (R) is true.
Assertion (A) : For observing traffic at back, the driver mirror is convex mirror.
Reason (R) : A convex mirror has much larger field of view than a plane mirror.
3. The following table gives the value of refractive indices of some media:
Medium Methanol Benzene Kerosene Turpentine Oil
Refractive 1.36 1.50 1.44 1.47
index

Light passes through these media one by one. Arrange these in the increasing order of the speed of light
through them.
4. Analyse the following observation table showing variation of image distance (v) with object distance
(u) in case of a convex lens and answer the questions that follows, without doing any calculations.

(a) What is the focal length of the convex lens? Give reason in support of your answer.
(b) Write the serial number of that observation which is not correct. How did you arrive at this conclusion?
(c) Take an appropriate scale to draw ray diagram for the observation at S. No. 4 and the approximate value
of magnification.
5. An object 2cm high is placed at a distance of 64 cm from white screen .On placing a convex lens at a distance
of 32cm from the object it is found that a distinct image of the object is formed on the screen. What is the
focal length of the convex lens and size of the image formed on the screen?

6. A square wire of side 3.0cm is placed 25cm away from a concave mirror of focal length 10cm.What is the
area enclosed by the image of the wire? The centre of the wire is on the axis of the mirror, with its two sides
normal to the axis.
