Cube
Directions for questions 1 to 3: Refer to the following data and answer the questions that follow
A cube of 7 cm × 7 cm × 7 cm is kept in the corner of a room and painted in three different colours,
each face in one colour. The cube is cut into 343 smaller but identical cubes.
Q1.
How many smaller cubes do not have any face painted?
A. 125
B. 180
C. 144
D. 216
Solution:
A cube kept in a corner of a room will have only three its faces visible. Each face of the larger cube
will look like as:
Number of cubes with none of the face painted
343 – (7 × 7 + 7 × 6 + 6 × 6) = 216
Hence, option D

Q2.
How many smaller cubes have exactly one colour on them?
A. 108
B. 72
C. 36
D. 24

Solution:
Three faces are painted as given in the figure. Total number of cubes= 343 The number of cubes with
only one colour on them:
Blue = 6x6 = 36
Green = 6x6 = 36
Red = 6x6 = 36
Hence, 36+36+36= 108. Therefore, option A is the answer.
Q3.
How many smaller cubes have at the most two faces painted?
A. 343
B. 342
C. 256
D. 282
Solution:
Total number of cubes= 343
Faces with three sides painted =1
Hence, 343-1 =342
Therefore, option B is the answer.

Direction Sense
Q6.
A child went 90 m towards the East to look for his father, then he turned right and went 20 m. After
this he turned right and after going 30 m, he reached his uncle's house. His father was not there. From
there he went 100 m to his north and met his father. How far did he travel to meet his father from the
starting point?
A. 80m
B. 100m
C. 170m
D. 260m

Solution:
Shortest Distance between the starting point and the point where the child met his father:

= √ 602 +802

= √ 3600+6400

= √ 10000

= 100 m
Hence, 100 m is correct.

Select the cube that can be formed by folding the given sheet along the lines.
1. Only C and D
2. Only A, C and D
3. Only B and C
4. Only A and C
Solution:
In this question, we will use the opposite face relation of cube which is shown below

Cause and Effect
Q12.
Two statements are given below, there may be cause and effect relationship between the two
statements. These may be the result of same cause or independent cause. Read both the statements and
mark the answer:
Statement I: There is an increase in the water level of all the water tanks supplying drinking
water to the city in the last fortnight.
Statement II: Most of the trains were cancelled due to waterlogging on the tracks.

1. Statement I is the cause and Statement II is the effect

2. The Statement II is the cause and Statement I is the effect
3. Both the Statement I and Statement II are effects of independent causes
4. Both the Statement I and Statement II are effects of the same common cause
Solution:
Both statements are the effect of the same cause, which is related to the heavy increase of
the water layer due to some reason. Hence, option D is the correct answer.

If 23rd April, 1995 is a Tuesday, then what will be the day on 23rd April, 1988?
1. Monday
2. Friday
3. Saturday
4. Sunday
Solution:
The odd days from 23rd April 1988 to 23rd April 1995 is (1 +1+1+2+1+1 +1) = 8. Hence 23rd April
1998 will be one day lesser than 23rd April 1995. If 23rd April 1995 is Tuesday, then 23rd April 1988 is
Monday. Hence, the correct answer is option 1.

Odd one out
Q15.
Find the odd one among the following
A. 143
B. 168
C. 225
D. 195
Solution:
The four numbers are 143, 168, 195, and 225
The difference, (168-143) = 25, (195-168) = 27, hence the next difference should be 29.
Hence the next number should be (195+29) = 224. Therefore, 225 is the odd number here. The correct
option is C.
