HOW THYROID HORMONE ARE
FORMED
The thyroid secretes two major hormones:thyroxineT4 and Triiodothyronine T3.

First iodide ion is oxidized to form iodine. which is capable of combining directly with the aminoacid tyrosine.

Then iodine bind with thyrogobulin molecule which is major constituent of colloid .

Tyrosine is first iodized to form monoiodotyrosine and then to diiodotyrosine.

The t4 is formed when two molecules of diiodotyrosine are joined.

One molecule of of monoiodotyrosine joined with diiodotyrosine to form triiodotyrosine T3.

Thyroxine and triiodothyronine combines with plasma protein mainly with thyroxine binding globulin.

As 93% of thyroid hormone released from thyroid gland is normally thyroxine and 7% is triiodothyronie.
