This text is for questions 1 to 6
At the beginning of last century, Fantasia was sleepy town, and even as recently as the 1950s
and early’ 60s, there were farms, orchards and vineyards close to our house. Garden thrived here and you
could find an incredible variety of exotic plants and shrubs. Of course, there weren’t freeways and there
used to be a good transportation system of electric trains. The air was crystal clear and as a young child, I
could see the mountains to the north and east almost every day.
Now, we’ve got freeway, traffic and pollution. What a shame! If you had seen Fantasia 60
years ago, you would have been amazed.
Imagine if the city had known what was going to happen? If Fantasia had kept its train
system, we might have avoided some of traffic problems. If the city planners had only thought more about
the future, they could have put more money into public transportation. If fewer people had moved to
Fantasia Island, the population wouldn’t have grown so fast. If Fantasia hadn’t grown so fast, we might
not have so many problems today. No one anticipated these things; otherwise we might have been a lot
more careful.

Government should not raise fuel price to solve the problem of economic issue. People were
affected severely with the high fuel price lake last year. Obviously they cut their spending. As an
example, they had to buy lower quality of rice or palm oil. There were also fewer buyers of
secondary commodities like flour, or canned meat or fish.

Furthermore, the condition of low income family will become even worse because their expenses
will increase while their salaries will not. Many companies will have to trim the number of
employees because they are incapable of managing, buying or selling price, standard wages and

Seeing the traffic situation in Indonesia, it can be concluded that law enforcers should
enforce the traffic rules. Look at the bold and reckless motorcycle riders riding against the flow,
modifying the exhaust pipe to create noise. They always act as if they own the streets.
All this happened due to weak enforcement of the law on highways and inaction by the
authorities. The death toll on the streets has already greatly increased. If violations continue, it
will become a habit. Death on the road is increasingly familiar on highways in Indonesia.
To reduce deaths from traffic accidents, I think the police should conduct traffic
operation twice a month. Law enforcement officers should ensure that traffic rules are obeyed by
road users. The national police should be in cooperation with local governments to conduct
public traffic education.

Jakarta’s Creative Industries

I read such an interesting article about the ‘beauty and diversity’ of Jakarta’s museums in The
Jakarta Post Magazine’s The Museum Week edition. For that reason, I was inclined to share my personal
experience of Jakarta’s art and creative scene. I think that Jakarta’s art and creative scene is so slim that a
proposal to UNESCO excluded Jakarta from its list of creative cities.
According to the proposal, Bandung, Pekalongan, Surakarta, and Yogyakarta are on the list of
creative cities. What I did learn from the absence of Jakarta? It is easier to find malls, blockbuster
Hollywood movies, and traffic jams in Jakarta than inspiring spaces, like musical concert, animation film
festivals, and batik fashion shows.
A friend advised me to visit Taman Mini Indonesia Indah. I was so surprised that I could speak a
word. I enjoy the textile and puppet museums. I also caught Indonesia movies. I was so impressed that I
plan to buy more books about this country. I think Indonesia is such a potential country that creative
industries develop well.
I also see that Jakarta also offers culture celebrations to enjoy, but they all emphasize Betawi
culture. Jakarta is a place where people from Aceh, to Papua go. These people surely bring their cultures
and traditions to metropolitan Jakarta. These diverse cultures can promote creative industries in Jakarta
with the support of government and investors.
I am sure that encouragement and funding is required to empower the citizens of Jakarta to reap
economic benefits from creative industries directly and transparently. The melting pot of creativity in
Jakarta has the potential to help not only the lives of Jakarta, but also the economy of Indonesia as a
whole.

And this place could
Be much
Brighter than tomorrow
And if you really try
You’ll find there’s no need
To cry
In this place you’ll feel
There’s no hurt or sorrow
