TITLE: Utilizing 555 Timer IC in University Quiz Buzzer

ABSTRACT:
Manual buzzers utilized for quiz competitions in schools and colleges make a part of
perplexity in recognizing the first respondent. In spite of the fact that there are circuits utilizing
PCs and discrete ICs, they are either as well costly or limited as it were a couple of players. The
quiz buzzer circuit given here can be utilized for up to eight players, which is the maximum in
any test competition. The circuit employments IC 74LS373 and many inactive components that
are promptly accessible within the market.

INTRODUCTION:
Growing up, the message that our parents and educators always conveyed to us was with
hard work and dedication you can do well on anything you put your mind towards. But since that
time things have changed in our society. The current trend in society appears to be a “cut-throat”
approach where the theme seems to be for individuals to do what they must to get ahead of the
next person (Johnson, 1997). This “cut-throat” approach has evolved through generations
impacting our professions, our universities, our high schools, and even our middle schools. The
need to be the best has become the motivation behind many students in today’s academic
settings, which has reinforced their competitive nature and shaped it into something that our
idealistic society based on morals and values was not prepared for. Our universities were not
prepared to cope with the increase of students who carry out academic dishonesty in order to
edge out their fellow students, and/or attain a higher level of prestige (Johnson, 1997).
A quiz is an important event in any school or college to test the participants' knowledge.
To increase the difficulty, the participants' spontaneity is also tested, and their reaction time is
also considered. As a result, the person who is prepared to answer the question first must press
the buzzer. Because the participants race to answer the question, it is also difficult for a judge or
organizer to identify the first person who pushed the buzzer ON. So, in this case, if someone
presses the buzzer first, all the remaining participants' buzzers are disabled, and the buzzer will
not sound again until the reset button is pressed.
This needs to have built a Quiz Buzzer Circuit for three individuals using the versatile
555 Timer IC, but we can increase the number of participants or players by increasing the
number of 555 ICs or by combining two or more ICs together.
