SEMI - DETAILED LESSON PLAN in MATH IV

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
 Identify the space figures
 Give examples of objects that represent space figures
 Infer the value of moderate eating

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic:
Space Figures

Concepts:
 Space figures are made up of plane figures put together to enclose a space.
 A cube is made of 6 faces. Each space is a square of equal size.
 A rectangular prism is also made of 6 faces. Each face is a rectangle.
 A cylinder is made of a rectangular side when flattened and 2 circles on top and bottom.
 A cone has a circular base and a triangular shaped body. It looks like a triangle with
round flat end.
 A triangular prism is formed by putting rectangles and triangles together.
 A sphere is a figure that is perfectly round and circular like ball.

Processes/Skills: identifying, drawing, and participating

Value Focus: Moderate eating

B. Reference:
 Math builders 4 pp. 339-345

C. Materials: visual aids, giant models of chocolate, box, and real objects ,television

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activity

1. Daily Routine
-Good morning, children !
-It’s nice to see you all!
-Let us start our day with a short prayer, who wants to lead?

-Everybody, please stand straight, keep quiet, bow your head and close your eyes.

-Before you sit, please pick up those pieces of paper and plastic around you. Then, arrange your
desks properly.

-You may now sit.

-Children, what day is today?

-How are you children?

- That’s good to hear. Did you eat your breakfast?

- Very good! We need to eat breakfast before going to school.

-Look at your seatmates. Is everybody present today?

-Wow! Because everybody is present today, give yourselves a “very good clap”.
2. Review/Recall
-Class, what do you see on the board?
-Very good! Can you identify each of them?

Plane Figures

-Good job, everyone! Do you know the song “3D Shapes Song”?

-If not, I will sing it first while playing the video. Then, you will sing with me.
Is that clear?

-Now, it’s your turn.

-Let us find out later how these shapes are related to our lesson for today.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation

-Class, who among you love eating chocolates?

-I have here different chocolate- flavored food.
The teacher will show giant models of the following:

Who among you loves to drink

chocolate milk drink?

Do you love the taste of Chuckie?

I love the sweetness of Stik-O!

Class, do you love it too?

Have you ever eaten Ferrero

chocolate?

It’s really tasty and crunchy!

I know class that most of you are

familiar with Toblerone!

Can you please describe its taste?

Class, have you ever eaten Cornetto

ice cream before?

It’s really delicious, crunchy, and

affordable!

You will love the richness of

taste of Cadbury Dairy Milk!

Is it mouth – watering?

Are you familiar with this one?

I bet you are!

The sweetness and milky taste of

choco-yema will make you crave for
more!
-If I will give all these chocolates to you, will you eat these all in just one day?

-Class, you should not eat all of these. Children, remember that “too much of everything is harmful.”
Eating too much chocolates can cause diabetes and tootaches. You can share it to your family or
friends.

2. Presentation of the Lesson

-What do you notice about these chocolates?

-Very good answer. These chocolates represent different shapes.

-This special group of shapes is our lesson for today.

They are called space figures.

3. Discussion

1) CUBE

Our first space figure is called cube.

-It is composed of squares of equal size.

-Let us count the squares that compose a cube.

If we put together these 6 equally-sided squares, we are going to form a cube.

These squares are called faces.

2) RECTANGULAR PRISM

-A rectangualr prism is made of 6 faces. Each face is a rectangle.

-Let us count the rectangles that compose a rectangular prism.

3) PYRAMID
A pyramid is composed of triangular faces that meet a common point.

4) CYLINDER

Our next space figure is called cylinder.

A cylinder is made of a rectangular side when flattened and two circles on top and bottom.

5) CONE

A cone has a circular base and a triangular-shaped body.

6) TRIANGULAR PRISM

A triangular prism is composed of 3 rectangles and 2 triangles.

7) SPHERE

A sphere is a figure that is perfectly round and circular like ball.

4. Enrichment Activity

(The teacher will ask the learners to give their examples of objects that are of the same shape with
the space figures discussed.)

5. Generalization
-Class, remember that space figures are made up of flat shapes put together to enclose a space.

6. Application

Activity 1
Now children, let’s play a game!
Game: Pick and Tell
Mechanics: The learner will pick an object from the ‘Space Box” and he/she will tell what space
figure does it looks like.

The “Space Box” contains:

 Onion
 Canned sardines
 Ball
 Pringles
 Toblerone
 Nestle All-Purpose Cream
 Bell Pepper
 Rubics Cube
 Yema

Activity 2
Game: “Hit Me Baby One More Time”
Mechanics: The class will be divided into two. Each group should have a representative for each
question. The answers are posted in the board. Using a fly swatter, the first player to hit the correct
answer twice will get a point.

IV. Evaluation

V. ASSIGNMENT
Draw any object that represents each space figure.

1. Cube
2. Pyramid
3. Rectangular prism
4. Sphere
5. Cone
6. Triangular prism
7. Cylinder
