Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics IV

Perimeter is the total distance around a two-dimensional shape. To find the perimeter of: - A square: P = 4s (where s is the length of one side) - A rectangle: P = 2l + 2w (where l is the length and w is the width) We find the perimeter by adding up the measurements of all the sides.

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher Student
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Greetings
Good morning class. Good morning Ma’am, Good morning classmates,
Good morning.
2. Prayer
Everybody please stands and let us pray.
(The leader leads the prayer.) Dear God,
Bless us in school today.
Help us grow
in love and kindness,
more like Jesus every day.
Amen.
3. Classroom management
Before you take your seats, please pick up the pieces
of paper under your chair. Yes Ma’am

4. Checking of Attendance
Class secretary, do we have absentees? I’m glad to inform you Ma’am that no one is
absent today.
Thank you, Secretary, I’m glad to hear that no
one is absent today.

B. Energizer
Before we start let us sing and dance first,
Please all stand.
“Bug and Roll Dance” (The pupils will sing and dance)
C. Drill
Let us answer what is written on the flash
cards.

Are you ready? Yes, we are.

(The pupils will answer)
10 + 9 19
4x7 28
8+7 15
7x2 14
6x6 36
5+4 9
8x4 32
11 + 6 17
5x3 15
23 + 6 29
Very Good, class.

D. Review
Last time we discussed about unit of measurement.
Now can you tell me the unit of measurement that
should be used for each of the following:
• Height of a flagpole Meter
• Size of a pencil Centimeter
• Height of Jose Meter
• Length of a ball pen Centimeter
• Sides of a blackboard Meter

Very Good.
E. Motivation
I have here two envelopes containing a
picture puzzle. I need two representatives to
arrange these two puzzles. You are going to
arrange this puzzle to form a picture.

Are you ready? Yes, Ma’am.

Now what did your classmates form? A picture of chocolate and a cake

Do you eat a chocolate and a cake? Yes, Ma’am.

What is the shape of a chocolate? A square

How about this cake, what is the shape of this? A rectangle

F. Discussion
How many sides are there in a square? There are 4 sides in a square
I have here a picture of chocolate, each side is 15cm
Now, let us find the total distance around the
chocolate or a perimeter of it. (one student goes to the board)
15+15+15+15= 15+15+15+15=60cm

How did we get the total distance of it? By adding the measurement of its side.
Based on what we did, what is the formula can you
derive to find the distance of a square? P= S+S+S+S

Can you find other ways to find the perimeter of a

square? P= 4s
How did you get that? By multiplying its side by 4 because square has 4
equal sides.
Excellent! Let us give him BOOM Clap (The pupils do the boom clap.)

So, the formula in getting the perimeter of the square

is P= 4s, where P stands for perimeter and S for its
sides. Square has 4 equal sides, so we get the
perimeter of it by multiplying its side by 4.

Did you understand? Yes, we did!

How about the rectangle, how many sides are there? Rectangle has 4 sides and its opposite sides are equal.

Yes, because rectangle has lengths and widths

Again, I have here a picture of cake, the lengths are
35cm and the widths are 20cm.
Now, let us find the total distance around the cake or
the perimeter of it. (one student goes to the board)
35+35+20+20= 35+35+20+20=110cm

How did we get the total distance of it? By adding the measurement of its side.
Based on what we did, what is the formula can you
derive to find the perimeter of a rectangle? P=l + l + w + w

Can you find other ways to find the perimeter of a

rectangle? P= 2l + 2w

How did you get that? By adding twice, the length and widths of the
rectangle.

Excellent! Let us give him an APPLE Clap (The pupils do the apple clap.)

The formula in getting the perimeter of the rectangle

is P= 2l + 2w where P stands for perimeter, L for its
length and W for its width, so we get the perimeter of
it by getting the sum of its length and width
multiplied by two.

Did you understand our lesson? Yes ma’am.

G. Practice Exercises
I have here another example. Find the total
distance of the following:
Answers:

1. 8cm P= 4s
P= 4 (8) = 32 cm
15cm P= 4s
2 P= 4 (15) = 60 cm

6cm

P= 2l + 2w
3cm
P= 2 (6) + 2 (3)
3. P= 12 + 6 = 18 cm

10m

4. P= 2l + 2w
5m
P= 2 (10) + 2 (5)
P= 20 + 10 = 30 m

24cm

P= 2l + 2w
5. 15cm P= 2 (24) + 2 (15)
P= 48 + 30 = 78 cm

Did you understand our lesson class? Yes maam.

Now for your better understanding let sing
the perimeter song.

Perimeter Song Perimeter Song

Perimeter is all the sides Perimeter is all the sides
Perimeter is all the sides Perimeter is all the sides
Oh, oh don’t you know Oh, oh don’t you know
perimeter is all the sides perimeter is all the sides
we add up all the sides we add up all the sides
we add up all the sides we add up all the sides
oh, oh don’t you know oh, oh don’t you know
we add up all the side. we add up all the sides.

H. Generalization
What is perimeter? Perimeter is the distance around the figure.

How do we get the perimeter of the square and

rectangle? By getting the sum of the measurement of its
side.
What is the formula in getting the perimeter of the
rectangle? P= 2l + 2w
What is the formula in getting the perimeter of the
square? P= 4s
Very Good!

I. Application
I have here a box, I will group you into 3. You will
choose a leader and the leader will pick one paper
inside in this box and you will find the perimeter of
the object that is written on a paper. The objects
you’ll going to measure through the use of tape
measure are:
a. Laptop
b. Handkerchief
c. Teacher’s table

You will solve and write your answers in this manila

paper. Post it on the board and your leader will
discuss your output.

IV. Evaluation
Find the perimeter of the following. Write your
solution in one whole sheet of paper.

P= 4s
1. 25m P= 4 (25) = 100m

P= 4s
42cm P= 4 (42) = 168cm
2.

P= 4s
13cm P= 4 (13) = 52cm
3.

P= 4s
36m P= 4 (36) = 144m
4.

P= 4s
18cm P= 4 (18) = 72cm
5.

L= 12cm P= 2l + 2w
6. W= 8cm P= (2 x 12) + (2 x 8)
P= 24 + 16 = 40cm

L= 30m
P= 2l + 2w
7. W= 25m P= 2 (30) + 2 (25)
P= 60 + 50 = 110m

P= 2l + 2w
L= 18m
8. P= 2 (18) + 2 (10)
W= 10m P= 36 + 20 = 56m
L= 20cm P= 2l + 2w
9. P= 2 (20) + 2 (16)
W= 16cm P= 40 + 32 = 72cm

L= 48m P= 2l + 2w
10. P= 2 (48) + 2 (36)
W= 36m
P= 96 + 72 = 168m

V. Assignment
A. Solve the perimeter of the following:
a. S= 15m
b. L= 10cm
W= 8cm
B. Find the perimeter of the following:
a. Your bedroom
