I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards
a. Demonstrates understanding of concepts of time, perimeter, area and
volume.
B. Performance Objectives
a. Able to apply the concept of time, perimeter, area, and volume to
mathematical problems and real-life situations.
C. Learning Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:

a. Visualize the perimeter of any given closed plane figure in different situation,
b. Measure the perimeter of any given closed figure using appropriate tools,
c. Derive the formula for perimeter of any given closed figure.
d. Find the perimeter of triangles, squares, and rectangles.

with 75% proficiency level.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Measuring Perimeter

Materials: Illustrations, Power point Presentation, Strips, Flashcards, real objects,

ruler

References: K to 12 Grade 4 Curriculum Guide, LM Math Grade 4 pages 183 to 185

III. INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Opening Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Checking of Assignment
4. Drill
A. The teacher will give a drill on adding and multiplying numbers
mentally. The teacher will show flashcards to the pupils and let the pupils answer
the numbers on the flashcards.

B. The Teacher will let the pupils answer the guessing game on polygons.
1. I am a polygon with four equal sides. What am I?
2. I have three sides and three angles. What am I?
3. I have two long parallel sides and two short parallel sides. What shape am I?

5. Review
The teacher will give a review on unit of measurement and measuring
tool.
Ask: What unit of measurement and measuring tool is appropriate for the
following:
- Distance between building
- Sides of the handkerchief
- Length of a safety pin
- Length of a ball pen
- Edge of the table
- Sides of the blackboard

6. Motivation
The teacher will show a plain handkerchief.

Ask: What is the shape of the handkerchief? Do you carry handkerchief

every day? Why? What are the uses of a handkerchief?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation

Let the pupils observe the following objects:

a. A handkerchief (square)
b. A picture frame (rectangle)
c. A table
d. A neckerchief
Encourage the pupils to say something about each object.

2. Performing the Activities

Group the pupils into 3. Let them answer the activity given by the teacher.
Each group is will be assign with different objects. Let the pupils work together to
find the answer to the given activity following the guide questions:
a. What is the measurement of each side?
b. What is the total distance around the figure?
c. How were you able to find the total distance around the figure?

After all groups have finished their output, let them display their work on the
board.

3. Processing the Activities

Ask the groups to present and discuss their answers on the board. (Check and
explain the output of the pupils.)

Ask: How did you find the activity? How were you able to find the answer?

Lead the pupils to note that what they have found out is the perimeter of the
closed figure give.
4. Reinforcing the Concept and Skill

Discuss the presentation under Explore and Discover.

Present another set of activity and then ask the pupils to answer the activity.

5. Summarizing the Lesson

Ask: What is perimeter? How do you find the perimeter of a given figure?
What is the formula in finding its perimeter of a triangle, a square and a
rectangle?
