Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance

Let us check first your attendance. Is there any

absent in the first table? Second table? Third? None Ma’am.
Fourth?

4. Drill

For today’s lesson we are going to find the volume of

rectangular prism. But before we go
on with our lesson, let us have first a drill on
multiplication of numbers.

We’re going to answer the flash cards and give the

correct answer.
Yes ma’am, we are ready!
Are you ready? Let us begin.

Good job!
A. Reviewing previous lesson

Last time we studied the area of different plane

figures.

We have here different plane figures. Find the area of

the following.

First, the area of square 1600 m2

40 m Area = Length x Length

= 40cm x 40cm
= 1600 m2

How did you get 1600 m?

Correct!
84cm2
Next, the area of rectangle

Area = Length x Width

7 cm
= 12 x 7
= 84 cm2

12 cm
How did you get 84cm2?

Correct!

B. Motivation

Class what can you see in this picture?

Child eating cereal

During breakfast

Increase energy
Improve concentration
When do we usually eat cereal? Improve academic performance

Why is it important to eat breakfast?

Very good!

Rectangular prism

What solid figure does it resemble? Shoe box

Door
Very good! Refrigerator….

Will you give me an example of objects that

resemble rectangular prism

Another example

C. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

Today class, I have here with me a rectangular prism.

We can see lots of small cubes inside the prism.

Ma’am, 45

What can you see inside this prism? Ma’am, 70

Yes. Each cube is 1 cubic unit

(Pupils will count the cubes)
How many cubic units do you think are inside this
rectangular prism? There are 60 cubic units ma’am

Any other guess?

Okay, let’s find out.

Who wants to count?

So, there are 60 cubic units inside this figure. These We multiply the length, width, and height
cubic unit inside this prism made up its volume.

What is the size of the length?

What is the size of the width?

What is the size of the height?

If our length is 5 units, the width is 4 units, and the

height is 3 unit, how did we get the 60 cubic units?

You can see that the volume is given by the formula

below.
V=lxwxh

The letter V stands for the volume. The letter l is the

length of the rectangular prism, w is for width, and h
is its height.

V=l x w x h
=5 x 4 x 3
= 60 cubic units

D. Presenting Examples/ instances of the

new lesson

How about these picture, let us find the volume of this

rectangular prism?

What is the size of the length?

What is the size of the width?
What is the size of the height?

How are we going to solve for the volume?

V=lxwxh
V = 8 cm x 6 cm x 3 cm
V = 144 cubic centimeter or
= 144 cm³

So, we just simply multiply the length, width, and the

height.

How about this one, let’s find the volume of this

rectangular prism
V= l x w x h
V= 15 cm x 4cm x 5 cm
6m V= 300 cm³

The volume of this prism ma’am is 420 c m³.

8m
4m
V=lxwxh
V = 4 cm x 8 cm x 6 cm
V = 192 cubic centimeter or
= 192 cm³
V= l x w x h
What is the volume of the rectangular prism? V= 15 cm x 4cm x 7 cm
V= 420 cm³

The volume of this prism ma’am is 420 c m³.

Very good!

How about this one?

Volume is the amount of space a solid figure
occupies.

Volume is the amount of space a solid figure

occupies.

We can find the volume of using the formula

V= l x w x h

Very good!
Soil, garden tools and water
F. Making generalization and abstraction
about the lesson

What is volume?

Will you repeat?

How do we find the volume of rectangular prism?

F. Finding Practical application of concepts

and skills in daily living

You have gardening in our EPP, right? What are the

things needed in planting? 3 x 5 x 4 = 60 square units

Correct. Now, let’s have another exercise which is

related to gardening. Will you read the problem class. Yes ma’am!

We are eating vegetables in our everyday lives.

We have a concrete rectangular plant box with They are important ingredients in cooking our
the dimensions below. You need to fill the plant box food.
with soil before planting vegetables. How many cubic
units of soil will you need to fill the plant box?

What is the answer to this problem class?

That is correct!

Class is it important to plant vegetables?

Why?

A. Evaluating learning

Find the volume of each figure.

1.

7 dm
2.
3 dm
7 dm

3.

4.

5. 2m

6m
12 m

B. Additional activities for application or

remediation

Measure a shoe box, box of powdered milk, and your

refrigerator and get their volume.
V. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation ___ of Learners who earned 80% above
B. No. of learners who require additional activities ___ of Learners who require additional activities
for remediation who scored below 80% for remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners ___Yes ___No
who have caught up with the lesson ____ of Learners who caught up the lesson

remediation remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my
principal or supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did I
use/discover which I wish to share with other
teachers?
