Learning Plan in Mathematics 4

I. OBJECTIVES
CONTENT STANDARD: Demonstrates understanding of the concept of perimeter.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: Applies the concepts of perimeter to mathematical problems and
real-life situations.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES:

A. visualizes the perimeter of a square (M4ME-IIIg-48)

B. measures the perimeter of a square using appropriate tools (M4ME-IIIh-49)
C. solve routine and non-routine real life situations involving the perimeter of a square
(M4ME-IIIi-52)

II. CONTENT:
Subject Matter : Finding the Perimeter of a Square
References : cuemath.com, pbslearningmedia.org

III. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:

A. Realia
B. Visual Aids
C. Laptops

IV. LESSON PROCEDURE:

A. Classroom Routine
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Arranging of seats
 Checking of attendance
 Energizer/Motivation – students sing the song “perimeter” using the tune of “Alimango
sa Dagat”
 Review

B. Learning Stage

a) Activity (Exploration)

The students will play the game “around the block” which they pass a ball, and whenever
the music stops, the student who got the ball will have to read the cue question. Then, try
to answer. If the student can’t answer, the ball will continue to pass on until the next cue
question. Students must remember the cue questions in order to guess the correct
answer. The student who guess the correct answer is the winner.

b) Analysis (Firming Up)

The teacher will show the students some shapes, and asks, is this a square?
How to identify a square?
How to find its perimeter?
Do you ever wonder why buildings, walls, appliances, and the likes are made better?
c) Abstraction (Deepening)
Name: Ms. Elieza G. Jaspe, LPT

1. Present the concept of perimeter.

2. Discuss to the class how to find the perimeter of a square. Explain that perimeter is use
to measure the distance of the length of a 2-D or flat shape.

3. Using the game found at wordwall.net, the group will find the perimeter of the square.
After solving it, one representative of the group must paste on the board the squared
popsicles. Then, write the final answer beside the squared popsicles.

4. Conclude that 2-D shape like square is just around us. The importance of finding the
perimeter is to find accurate measurement of the shape. If shape will not be measured,
buildings or objects will not be made perfectly. Reiterate that to find the perimeter of a
square; students have to add all the sides if they use addition, or multiply one side by
four, for multiplication. Students must not forget to include its units.

d) Application (Transferring)

From the same group, one basket will be given to each group. The group
must be able to measure the sides to find the perimeter of the squared object inside the
basket using the appropriate tool.

V. ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
Directions: In the worksheet, read the situation. Then, calculate the perimeter of the given
square. Don‘t forget to write your name and section.

Name:
Section:

Directions: Find the perimeter of square.

Read the given problem below.
Diane was amazed by the square football
field in their school. Help her find its
measurement which each side measures 15
yards.

___________

VI. ASSIGNMENT
Directions: Find any 2-D square material at home. Measure the sides to find its perimeter.
Then take a photo or draw the 2-D shape along its measurements.
Use a paper to write your answer and paste or draw the photo of the 2-D square.
See example below.

 Each side of this squared window is 10 cm.
