SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATH 5

Universidad de Sta. Isabel

St. Elias St., Naga City
S/Y 2021-2022

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Add fractions and mixed number without and with regrouping
b. Solve routine and non-routine problems involving addition of fractions using
appropriate problem solving strategies and tools

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Adding Frations and Mixed Numbers
B. References: 21st Century MATHletes 5, Quarter 1, Week 6, Curriculum
Guide Mathematics p.58
C. Materials: PowerPoint presentation
D. Values: If you set your goals ridiculously high and it's a failure, you will
fail above everyone else's success.

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
B. MOTIVATION
1. The teacher will ask the students if they have already seen a roll of
plain cloth (You may show a picture of rolls of cloth that can be
seen in dry markets). And ask the students these questions:

a. Where do we usually see them?

b. Where do we usually use these cloths? (Let the pupils share
their ideas)

C. PRESENTATION
1. The teacher will present and discuss the lesson clearly.

Mrs. Martin bought 5 ½ m of white cloth and 2/5 m of blue cloth. How
many meters of cloth did she buy in all?

2. Then, ask them to these following question?

a. How will you solve the problem?
b. What is asked?
c. What are the given?
d. What operation should be used?
e. What kind of fractions are 5 ½ and 2/5?
f. How do we add fractions and mixed numbers?

3. From the given models we can formulate steps on adding fractions and
mixed number.

a. From the models illustrated, you can see that we need to

convert ½ and 2/5 into similar fractions, where q0 is the LCM of
5 and 2
b. Add the whole numbers before the fractional part.
c. Reduce the answer to lowest terms if possible.
D. DEEPENING

Mrs. Ramos’ class recorded the rainfall every day. On Monday, the
students recorded 1/3 cm of rain and 2/3 cm of rain was recorded on
Tuesday. How many centimeters of rain did the class record in all?

E. GENERALIZATION
1. Lead the pupils to give the following generalization by asking these
questions:

a. How do we add fractions and mixed numbers if the fractions are

similar?
b. How do we add fractions and mixed numbers if the fractions are
dissimilar?

F. APPLICATION
1. Ask the learners to answer the problems below:

Solve the problem using 4-step process.

Klare prepared orange-pineapple juice for her family. She mixed 3 ½
cups of water, ¼ cup of orange juice, and ½ cup of pineapple juice. How
many cups of liquid did she mix in all?

G. FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT

1. Tell the learners to refer to textbook and answers pages 60-62, Evaluate
A.
