Review

As you can see class I have here a

bar graph. Can you tell what the
bar graph all about is? Favorite Snacks/ Snacks

Very good! It is all about Snacks or

rather a favorite snacks.

We have here six different types of

snacks. Namely fruit, vegetables,
cheese, trail mix, crackers, and
popcorn. As well as, the number
who voted.

In our previous topic on how we

construct the data into the bar
graph? First we have to? Find the title

Correct! In constructing the data

we need to find or identify the title
of it.

B. Discussion
Single bar graph can be vertical or
horizontal. They have two axes,
the horizontal axis and vertical
axis.

Ronald, can you read what bar

graph is? Bar graph – is used to compare data
from different groups or periods.
While;
Okay, it is the compared the data
that you gathered. While Data is …

Yes, Paula. Is a collection of gathered

information. The graph is all about
the favorite sports. That shows in
your screen.

So, let’s now study the following

questions:
1. What is the title of the bar
graph? Our Favorite Sports

2. In the vertical bar graph, what

information is placed along the
horizontal axis? Sports

And on the vertical axis? Number of students

3. In the horizontal bar graph,

what information is placed
along the horizontal axis? Number of Students

And in the vertical axis? Sports

4. What sports is the favorite of

most students? Football
5. How many students like
hockey? 4
6. What sport is the second
choice? Rugby
7. How many students like other
sports aside from football,
hockey, and rugby? 3
8. What is the total number of
students who like football,
hockey and rugby? 19

Another Example:
Study the vertical bar graph below.
Then, read first the question before
you answer it.

Is that clear grade 4? Yes, teacher.

Yes Jericho. Read first the question and

answer it. 1. What is the title of the bar
graph? The title of the bar
graph is Water consumed in 5
days.
That’s right! Very good Jericho.

Number 2, Joanna. 2. What is found in horizontal

axis? Day.
Okay, it is the Day.

Number 3, Ambrose Jon. 3. What is found in vertical axis?

Gallons of Water
It is Gallons of Water in vertical axis.

Number 4, yes Calev. 4. How many gallons of water

were consumed on Monday
and Tuesday? 35 gallons of
water.
Yes, Jonah. Number 5 questions. 5. How many more gallons of
water were consumed on
Wednesday than on
Tuesday? 5 more gallons.

Number 6, Zhana. 6. What days had the same

water consumption? Monday
and Thursday.

Number 7, Aries. 7. What was the total

consumption for 5 days? 85

C. Generalization
When do we use a bar graph?

Yes, Jonah. We used bar graph to compare data

from different groups or different
periods.
That’s right!

How about Data? Yes, Keeon? Data is a collection of gathered

information from a group.
Excellent!

D. Application
I have here a horizontal bar graph.

Our Favorite Subject

M

S
Subjects
E

0 2 4 6 8 10

Number of Pupils

M- math E- english

S- science F- filipino

Subject.
What can you see in the graph?

Correct!

What do you think is missing in the The number of Pupils.

graph?

Very good! What a keen eye you

have.

So I want you all to participate here.

You just need to hit the raise hand
button if this subject is your favorite.
Yes, teacher.
Do understand? 6 pupils raise their hand.
For the math subject!

Okay, so for math we 10.

8 pupils raise their hand.
How about the english subject?
8 pupils raise their hand.
8 for english. And for Science?

And for our last subject which is 10 pupils raise their hand.
filipino?

Now that we have the number of

pupils we can now put it in our graph.
And label it as well.

But before that, what information that I

gathered from you? You instruct us to hit the raise hand
button in our screen if our favorite
subject is called.
Excellent!

So now that we complete the table.

You can now answer the following
questions.

1. What is the title of the bar graph? Our Favorite Subject

2. What is found in the horizontal

axis? Number of Students

3. What is found in vertical axis? Subjects

4. How many pupils have a favorite

subject in math? 6 pupils.

5. What subject has a highest like of

the pupils? Filpino.

6. What was the total number of

pupils in all subjects? 32 pupils

IV. Evaluation
Read and interpret the bar graph. Answer the questions that follow. Write your
answer in your notebook.

1. what is the title of the graph?
2. What is found in the horizontal axis?
3. What is found in vertical axis?
