III. Learning Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity
A. Routinary Activity
Prayer
Father God, we honor and glorify your name, (bowed and pray)
today, as we start our lesson, we are asking for
guidance as we come to learn another lesson.
Bless each and every one of us with knowledge,
wisdom and confidence in order to make this day
worthwhile. We are also asking for protection
over our family who are working so hard to send
us here in school with a happy stomach. Father
God, we humbly pray for forgiveness to all our sin
that keep us away from you, may we have not
deal with it again through your guidance. Father
God, we are so much grateful for having us in
your wake up list and here we are living a new
day, new beginning. Thank for keeping us safe,
healthy and sound all the time and for all the
blessings you have given us. We pray all these in
the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, Amen.
Greetings
“Good morning, class!” Good morning, ma’am and dear classmate!
Checking of attendance
“Is anyone absent today? None, ma’am.
“very good!” let’s give ourselves 5 claps
1, 2, 3, 4, 5! (clap)

Setting Standards
“Before we proceed, I would like to remind
you the following standards during our
discussion. First, listen attentively, second,
cooperate and participate actively and lastly,
always raise a hand for the means of clarification
and other important necessities only. Is that
clear? Yes, ma’am!

B. Motivation
Before we start, can we wake up that sluggish
mood. Let’s all stand up and do the “head,
shoulder, knees and toes” in one, two, sing!

(Head, shoulder, knees and toes, knees and Head, shoulder, knees and toes, knees and
toes…) toes…)
C. Presentation of the topic
Let’s play a game. I am going to cover a ball using
any of these two cups. You have to guess which
cup is covering the ball. Okay? Yes, ma’am.

(play the game at least 5 rounds) (actively participated)

D. Discussion
Now, from that activity, what have you observe? We guessed
And when you guess, what do you want to To make our guess come true
happen next?
Actually, you are begging for a chance, a chance
to win or guess where the ball is, you are
assuming that your guess is right, isn’t it? Yes, ma’am!

Today, we are going to tackle how to record

favorable outcomes in a simple experiment and
also how to determine the level of probability
using the probability line.

Probability – refers to how likely an event is to (Listen attentively)

occur or how likely it is that a proposition is true.

Take note that when we are getting the

probability of a certain event, we usually predict
the chance of that event to happen and we can
measure the levels of an event using the
probability line.

Now, let’s find out what is all about the

probability line.

The probability line shows the level of probability

depending on the probability or possibility of an
event to happen.

Impossible event – is an event that cannot

happen. The possibility of an event to happen is
unattainable. Kindly give an example of
impossible things that you usually think? “Philippines experience winter”
Exactly, how we wish to experience playing on
snow here in the Philippines but we only two
season summer and wet since we belong to
tropical countries.

Remember, if there is zero probability, the event

is not going to happen.

Unlikely event – it is near zero meaning there is a

low chance for the event to happen. Another
example of unlikely event? Seeing crocodile in the city
It is really an unlikely event because the chance
to see a crocodile in the city is low since crocodile
usually lives in places with wide lakes and creep
forest.

Remember, if the event is near zero probability,

then the event is unlikely to happen.

Even chance – it is a chance that has only two

outcomes. The chance of the events is the same.
It is either the event will happen or the other way
around. Who can give an example of even
chance? Ma’am, winning or losing during election.
Absolutely, the probability of event to happen is
the same since a politician can either win the
position or lose the position.

Remember, in the probability line, even chance is

found in the center, it is equally between 0 and 1
probabilities, meaning the event may either
occur or not.

Likely event – it is an event that is expected to

occur or take place. It is between equally likely
event and 1 probability, meaning, there is a high
chance that the event will happen.
Who can also give me an example of this? Winning in raffle draws with many entries
It can be! Because the more entries, the more
chances of winning in a raffle game.
Certain event – it is an event that is sure to
happen. What about an example of certain
event? Passing the exam, ma’am!
Correct! No matter what your score is as long as
it is above 25 out of 50, you will still pass the
exam.

E. Application

Now, I will group you into 5. Each group is task to

demonstrate the levels of probability through a (accomplish their task)
simple experiment. Then, at least give a simple
situation that explains the level of probability.
(draw lots for fair chance)
Group 1 – unlikely event (getting yellow in the
spinning wheel with many colors)
Group 2 – certain event (selecting randomly with
the same kinds of pilot pens)
Group 3 – impossible event (Getting the
probability of 7 in rolling a die)
Group 4 – likely event (randomly selecting black
ping pong balls in a jar filled with 10 black ping
pong ball and 7 white ping pong ball)
Group 5 – equally likely events (tossing a coin)

(Each group are given 5 10 minutes to do the

activity and 2 minutes to share their output to
the class)
(sharing their output)

F. Generalization
Who can define probability?

Ma’am, it is a description of how an event is likely

to occur.
Ma’am, it is a possible thought about how a
How can you apply probability in real life certain event will come out.
situation?
Probability can be used in decision making by
weighing the possibility of an event to happen so
that we will be able to know the impact of which
What is the importance of probability in our daily though it is just a possible thought.
life?
Probability help us to have an advance thought to
something that is expected to happen.
Probability is important in boosting our self-
confidence because of having the knowledge to
predict things.
It is important in being wise because it enables us
to go ahead the mind of others by examining the
possible events.
What does it mean if the probability is zero? The event is impossible to happen.
What about if the probability is one? The event will happen.
What is the difference between likely and Likely means having high chances while unlikely
unlikely? means low chance.
What about even chance? The chances of the outcomes are equal.

IV. Evaluation

A. Matching type: match column a to column b which correspond to the correct answer.

A B

1. Certain a. it has zero probability

2. Unlikely b. it has ¾ probability
3. Impossible c. it has 1 probability
4. Likely d. it has ½ probability
5. Even chance e. it has ¼ probability

B. Determine the level of probability in each statement and explain your answer briefly.

Example:

“Philippines experience spring”

Impossible event because Philippines is likely near the Equator, thus it is impossible to have a spring
season in the Philippines.

1. It is going to rain today.

(Equally likely events because it is either going to rain or not.)

2. The Mayon volcano will erupt in its 48 times.

(Certain event because Mayon volcano is one of the active volcano in the Philippines and it erupted 47
times in the past 500 years and is certain to erupt in its 48 times.)

3. President Duterte will run another term as a president in this coming election.

(Likely event because there is a high chance that he will run again.)

4. Covid-19 vaccine will heal the world once it is out.

(Unlikely event, because not all people can afford its price and not all will trust it.)
5. Humans will never die.

(Impossible event because humans are mortals that will surely die in unexpected time).
