ABSTRACT

Justice is the main pillar upon which our judicial system operates, to achieve it a long and
tedious procedure has to be followed and it may even take years for justice to be served because
‘a person is innocent until proven guilty’2.To achieve the above goal one needs to complete a
huge process which includes filing an FIR, to court proceedings, and then at the end seeking
court judgments, with the passage of time a massive evolution over the years has been seen in the
judicial system and there is a remarkable technological advancement where technology is now
used to solve crimes making Forensic science a new helping hand.
It is one of the most important parcel of a criminal investigation since it is precise, unerring and
increases the chances of success of an investigation or trial. Because of its analytical nature, it
plays a vital role in the criminal justice system by helping the court to arrive at a logical
conclusion resulting in less chances of any injustice.
Forensic evidence is a discipline that functions within the parameters of the legal system, its
purpose is to provide guidance to those conducting criminal investigation and to supply to courts
accurate information upon which they can rely in resolving criminal and civil disputes. This
paper aims to explore the applicability and effectiveness of use of scientific and modern
techniques in forensic science in criminal investigation and what role it plays in keeping law and
order in a society.
