MATHEMATICS FOR GRADE FIVE

Objective:- This exercises is designed to

 Cover the topic of missing class

 Maintains students’ academic performance.
 Create opportunity so as to practice with various mathematical problems
during break time

Equations and formulas

 Equations:- is a statement that shows the equality of two expressions

connected by equal (“ = ”) sign.

Examples 4 + 6 = 10 2x + 6 = 24
1
x
x–2=4 2 =6

Solving equations: To solve an equation finding the variables that makes the statement
true is undeniable

Examples 20 + x = 32 2x+ 6 = 24

x = 32  20 2x = 24  6

x = 12

x=9

 Replace 12 in place of x whether the equation is true or false accordingly

20 + 12 = 32
32 = 32
 You have to practice for all equation that are going to be solved.

Based on the examples you have seen above please try to solve the following exercise.

Exercise 1. Find the value of x for the following equations.

x
B. 4  2 = 3 G. 7x = 6x 6
C. 5 + x H. 2x 4 = 10
D. x+ 9 = 18  2x I.x + 9 = 18  2x
E. 15 + 5x = 15

Pattern and sequence

 A number pattern is defined as a sequence of numbers in which a common

relationship is established to predict the next number from the previous pattern.
Example 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 ____ _____ _____

To find the next numbers, we need to see the first given numbers from the series, then
find out the difference between consecutive numbers. Accordingly we can observe that
there is a difference of five on the above series of numbers therefore the pattern should
goes.

0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 30 35 40.

Students now you are advice to fill the blank space on the following series of numbers.

Exercise 2

Find the next three numbers for the following pattern.

A. 11, 17, 23, 29 ____ ____ ____

B. 18, 15, 12 ____ ____ ____
C. 2, 4, 8, 16 ____ ____ ____
D. 25, 23, 21, 19 ____ ____ ____
E. 1, 3, 9, 27 ____ ____ ____
F. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, ____ ____ ____
G. 1, 3, 6, 10, 15 ____ ____ ____
H. 10, 5, 2.5 ____ ____ ____

MEASURMENT

Measures of perimeter

 Perimeter is defined as the measure of the length of a line or curve drawn around
an area or shapes.

Perimeter of square

s P=s+s+s+s

s s p = 4s

Example Find the perimeter of square if the side length measures 8cm

P = 4s

P = 4 (8c.m) = 32c.m

Perimeter of rectangle

l
W W
P = 2 (l + w)

Example Find the perimeter of rectangle if the length & width measures. 6c.m and 5c.m
respectively

P = 2 (l + w)

P = 2 (6c.m + 5c.m)

P = 2 (11c.m)

P = 22c.m

 The formula p = ns can be used to find the perimeter of any regular n side polygon
