Introduction to Project Management

Professor’s Name: Muhammad Atif Rasheed

2

For each part (A, B, C), what phase of the project life cycle is each project in?

According to the project life cycle, which can be divided into four phases that are

recognized by the planned modifications, actions, and project goals, each project has a

limited lifespan.

Three separate personalities, each representing a different management business, are

included in the case. This is interesting that they decided to get together at lunch at least once

a month in order to discuss their plans as well as share ideas.

Fatma operates an internet-based firm that has a new project that involves

transforming an empty warehouse into eight two-bedroom flats. PAX-2, an electrical gadget

that doctors use for a patient's spine, is the name of the project on which Viktoria is currently

working. As a consequence, Viktoria's project includes creating new chargeable battery

systems that can prevent patients from requiring many procedures. Jasper is a software

engineer who works for a new business and is now trying to get some money. Although he

has numerous competitors in his industry, he is working all day and night on his project.

In Part A, Fatma started arranging a meeting to talk about the project scope on Friday.

She additionally worked on project goals and demands, which are part of the project life

cycle's defining procedure. Viktoria also discussed the budget, restrictions, requirements, and

omissions for her project, which influence the project life cycle's planning stage. As a
3

software developer, Jasper was working at the executive stages of the project because the

scope of his job was frequently changing. During the 'part A' discussions, time and

specification measurements were also used to keep things under control.

In part B, Fatma presented the two-day risk management session that was conducted

based on assigning work assignments and preparing risk reports that are associated with the

planning phase. The manager of Viktoria had a well-planned swap option to think about to

maintain the project on time and to meet high standards; as a result, she was in the executive

stage. Jasper devoted his previous three days to working regularly on programming his work

to achieve success, which represents the executive phase through the project life cycle.

In Section C, Fatma stated that she was responsible for scheduling time to meet Bruno

and Ryan, suggesting that she was in authority over timing, rules, and regulations. Her work

also included measurements of projections and task modifications, illustrating the project life

cycle's implementation phase. Furthermore, Viktoria's project was getting close to completion

because she had been working on a project currently as well as conducting a post-project

evaluation of her project with future prospects to be measured for the next projects. Jasper's

work, after spending six months on it, was unable to create an appropriate item and was a

failure. He was consequently in the last stages of executing the project and reactivating

project resources.

What are two important things you learned about working on projects from the case?

Why are they important?

From this case study, I learned that working together is the most significant and

fundamental element of this case study. Without a doubt, collaboration and the incorporation

of multiple individuals into a project will enhance its chances of success. In addition, when

more people engage, their different perspectives will assist in leading the entire team towards

achievement. For example, in Section C, the work on the Fatma project was handled by two

of the founders, Bruno and Ryan. They gave the project their best effort despite introducing

multiple viewpoints to it, and they managed to execute their task on schedule. We need to

work collaboratively as a team in order to achieve our goal, so it depends on us to be

effectivse communicators and willing to listen.

Subsequentaly, Time management is still another vital component of project

management that needs to be taken into consideration. Suddenly, effective time management

is the key to completing any task on time. Each team member must finish each assignment

within a set period of time, which calls for a sense of organization. The project can be done

in a specified period of time if each task has been planned out and distributed to team

members. As shown in part B, Viktoria's boss was forward-thinking and had a backup plan

prepared; as a result of this, they managed to wrap up their task before the deadline.

Project conclusion and evaluation: Viktoria emphasises the significance of project

closing activities such as documentation and project retrospectives. Documenting project

specifics and lessons learnt allows for future reference and continual development. Project
5

retrospectives or audits enable teams to assess achievements and failures, identify areas for

improvement, and apply lessons gained to future projects.

As a result of this case study, we have a better understanding of the project life cycle,

which is the classification of project work into subcategories based on team member efforts

and work. Without a doubt, we need capabilities like collaboration, working together, and

time management to effectively complete this task.
