Miami is one of the biggest seaports in the United States, located in southheast
Florida. In 2008, Forbes magazine named Miami the cleanest city in the United
States. The orginal inhabitants of Miami were Indians. In 1900 there were
barely 300 people, while today, Miami has a population of approximately half a
million, making it the the 44th most populated city in the United States. Miami
and his suburbs are located between the Everglades Wetland in the west and
Biscayne Bay in the east. The main part of the city is located on the shores of
the bay. The warm ocean flows 10km into the north, which means that the city
has a warm climate all the year round and that winters are mild. The hurricane
season lasts from June 1 to November 30, but the hurricane can still occur
outside this period. The biggest threat to Miami exists during the Green
hurricane season, which runs from mid-August to late September. Tornadoes
are very rare in Miami. The greatest natural symbol of Miami is the Natina palm
tree. Miami also has many attractions such as the Jungle Island, a bird
sanctuary and botanical garden, one of the biggest in this region of the world
and the Miami Zoo, which has more than 3,000 wild animals, including 40
endangered species. Miami is also known for Bayside Marketplace, a large
outdoor style market with more than 150 tourist shops, cafes, restaurants and
daily live entertainment. Miami enjoys a diverse culture that is influenced by a
diverse population from all around the world. Miami is known as the "Magic
City" for seemingly popping up overnight. It is also called the "Capital of Latin
America" because of its high population of Spanish-speakers. Miami is a must-
see place when you visit America.
