Consumer homework

Outline a consumer's legal rights under the terms of the sale of goods and supply of services
act 1980 with reference to any three of the following:
1. Merchantable quality
2. Guarantees
3. Signs limiting consumer rights
4. Unsolicited goods

Merchantable Quality: the consumer is entitled to goods that are of merchantable

quality i.e. they are of a good quality in relation to the price paid for them. If the good is not of
merchantable quality, the consumer could seek a refund, replacement, or repair depending on
the type of fault and the time frame.
For example, Tesco offers a new range of products, in which you can find a packet of
corn pancakes. This product is offered as an innovative way to improve the variety of food we
eat. A consumer, George, decided to buy it two days ago because he finds it very interesting.
However, when he has finally opened the package, he found some pieces of rusted metal inside.
He communicated this to the supermarket where he bought it and he has been offered to receive
another packet in good quality and a card with which he can buy anything in Tesco up to €5 as
a form of apology.
