media, teenagers have more access to that information than ever before."

History
On march 15- 1962,US president John F Kinnedy put forth the “ CONSUMER BILL OF
RIGHTS’’ to help consumers understand their rights and responsibilities. In 1885, six consumer
rights were adopted by United Nation Assembly, which resulted in consumers having stronger
consumer protection, policies worldwide. March 15 is now declared as World Consumer Rights
Day.

1. RIGHT TO CHOOSE
The consumer has the right to choose from variety and various products at competitive
prices with an assurance of satisfactory. According to this right the consumer has the
right to get information about the quality, quantity, purity, standard and price of goods or
service so as to protect himself against the abusive and unfair practices quality
2. RIGHT TO SAFETY
The consumer should be protected against the marketing of goods or the provision of
services that are hazardous to health and life. While buying cosmetics, soaps , shampoos ,
its the right of consumer to ask about information from shopkeeper like soaps according to skin
type, a foundation suitable for complexion or not.

3. THE RIGHT TO BE INFORMED


The consumer should be protected against dishonest or misleading, advertising or
labeling and has the right to be the fact and information needed to make an informed
choice. It is the right to be given true facts and information about products so we can
make wise choice.
4. THE RIGHT TO BE HEARD
Right to express consumer interests in making of government polices. Sometimes the
companies who are at their high status, commit mistakes like manufacturing soaps, shampoos.
We must have to inform them about their negative points towards their product.

5. RIGHT TO CONSUMER EDUCATION


Right to consumer education is the right to acquire knowledge and skills necessary
to be an informed consumer.
6. RIGHT TO HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT
The right to live and work in an environment which is neither threatening nor dangerous and which
permits a life of dignity and wellbeing

EXAMPLE: It means the right to a physical environment that will enhance the quality of life

Aside from the Consumer Act of 2009, there are also other international and national consumer
advocacy groups that advocate for our health.
