CHAPLAINS CORNER Happy New Year!

I do realize that its the Jewish New Year this month, not the Christmas one. But I think our Jewish friends are onto something. Because September does seem to mark the beginning of many things, activities and phases. A new academic year is beginning with the opening of school. Summer seems to be officially over as the students return to school from their vacations. World Youth Day has come to an end and everyone has returned to their homes and reality. Labour Day marked the official day for returning from cottage country. The C.N.E. is finished. Kingsway Council is starting to hold meetings again as are most fraternal, religious and social groups, Parish life is resuming its normal schedules and activities. Even nature is beginning a new phase with earlier evenings, shorter days, longer nights and great seasonal foods like corn, tomatoes, etc. It seems that Nature and society are trying to teach us members of Kingsway Council something. Its time for us to rededicate ourselves to the principles and purposes for which we, the Mother Council of Etobicoke was founded. Father McGivney founded us for the sanctification of ourselves and our families, for helping each other socially, spiritually and financially, for professing and practicing our Catholic faith proudly and openly and for the evangelization and sanctification of the society in which we live. Thats why he founded our order. So, as we begin this new year socially, spiritually, academically and fraternally, we Knights of Columbus can do no better than to renew our dedication to our order and the principles and ideals for which we were founded. May God bless each of us as we embark upon a new fraternal year of more numerous spiritual, social and charitable activities. May God grant Kingsway Council, its members and their families a holy and happy new year of service to our God, our Church, our country, our families and our community. Rev. L.D. Burns, C.S.B. GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE

I hope to see more of you out at our meetings, and with Gods guidance, and your help, Kingsway CounWelcome to our first Newsletter cil will continue to flourish and thrive. Our next exfor the new fraternal year. As ecutive meeting will be on September 27th and general some of you may or may not meeting on October 11th. have heard, Brother Denis Tisdel has stepped down as Grand Knight for personal reasons. Vivat Jesus, One aspect of being a Knights Paul Bryce of Columbus, is to support and Grand Knight help each other in times of trouble. Let us all rally around him, and pray that God protect and guide him as he works through the trials and tribulations that he may face. As such, I will be taking over as Grand Knight until the proper course of action is determined. I ask that you also pray for me, that I may carry out this executive position with honour and respect to the office of Grand Knight, and to our council as well. We have a very busy couple of months ahead of us, and I know that with your support, we will continue to positively grow the name and reputation of Kingsway Council in both our community and Churches. We just completed our bottle drive for St. Francis Table, and the final tally should be ready in a couple of days. It was a successful event, and we are planning to organize one or two more in the future. Thanks to Brother Chris Tisdel for his help in organizing this event, and to all the other Brothers who helped at the event. Good job to each one of you. Some of the other tentative upcoming events are as follows: October 1: Installation of Officers at Our Lady of Peace, Pot Luck Dinner to follow December 3: Pasta dinner at Holy Angels January 8: Out of the Cold with use of Kitchen at Our Lady of Peace January 14: Pasta Night at St. Gregorys, co-hosted by the CWL Brother Knights,

The council has started to undertake the role of fundraising for St. Francis Table ( a place where homeless and those less fortunate can have a great meal for only $1.00) More information will be available as we receive it.
