1) The theme of the rising of the moon is the identity of colonialism. The theme also shows
loyalty and betrayal where the police have been given difficult decisions whether to be loyal to
England or to be an Irish republic.
2) The man: The man is an escaped convict fighting for Irish freedom. He very smartly plays
on the emotions and fears of the simple Sergeant. He first frightens him into letting him stay
on the quay with him. Then by singing patriotic songs and reminding the Sergeant about his
youth, he bonds with him to the extent that the Sergeant finally forgets his duties, turns
patriotic, and allow him to escape.
C) (4)
1) Oberon, the king of the fairies, is initially angry with his wife, Titania, because she refuses
to hand over control of a young Indian boy whom he wants. Oberon is also jealous of her
affection for the boy. He desires to take revenge on Titania.
On the other hand, when he sees Helena’s distress in not getting the love with of
Demetrius, he sends puck to help them. Oberon is soft hearted where lovers are concerned, is
their friends and tries to help them.
2) In the play, Titania falls in love with an ass’s head. The play’s central couples are Hermia,
Lysander, Helena and Demetrius. Hermia and Lysander love each other. Helena is pursuing
Demetrius but Demetrius wants Hermia. Thus, before entering the forest, both men are in love
with Hermia.
The play has all the ingredients needed for success love, jealousy, magic, dreams,
literary devices, amusing dialogues, and poetry which can be put music.
D) (4)
1) Dr. Thomas Stockmann is the protagonist and main character of the play. He is a medical
doctor and a family man. He is also the medical officer of the town Baths. He is idealistic,
emotional and motivated by the truth. He is a true friend to the town and the community.
Dr. Stockmann’s brother Peter Stockmann is the mayor of the town and the Chairman of
the Bath Committee. He is antagonist. He is not interested in truth but motivated by money and
control.
2) The climax shows how fickle opportunists like Hovstad and Aslaksen can be. It makes one
believe that there is such a thing as ‘family loyalty’. It shows that an honest man is always
ready to fight for the truth, come what may. The most important thing it proves is that the
strongest man in the world is he who stands alone.
