Lights

Par can- stands for parabolic aluminised reflector and is used to designate a
sealed beam lamp similar to headlights in an automobile.
Par can is capable of achieving 6%-48%

Acclaim fresnel- an adjustable beam of light with a soft edge with narrow/wide
angles can easily be blended.

Rama fresnel- is exactly the same as the acclaim. Goes well with the acclaim
but is smaller. Good for a small room but is less powerful and slightly shorter
range.

Flood lights- broad beams very bright. The angle of a flood light is from 4% to
60%but larger to 120% used for low lit area.

Follow spot- you can control it or get it rigged. easily moves and can change
colour. small range to follow certain characters or mounted on tracks for more
precise lighting.

LED- lighting emitting diode- semiconductor device when an electric current is

passed through it. Lights in the theatre / entertainment are not the same as
regular lights consume up to 90% less. Different sizes. Beam angle cant be
changed.

Adjusting lights- by angering held in a ‘u’ shape refers to a fine turning of

lanterns to get the atmosphere you are looking for in a production. Correct size,
shape and focus of beam of light projected by a lantern. Panning- left or right
focusing-in or out blur effect tilting- up and down. Can be blended with other
effects.
Lighting equipment

light towers- to attach lights to the ceiling.

cyclorama - a large white drape or screen that is positioned upstage.
lighting desk - a manual or software-based system for operating lighting.
profile spot - a tight beam of light that can be used to highlight an area on
stage.
rigging - the structure that supports the lanterns.
Gobos- thin Metal or plastic disc with patterns inscribed into its surface.
Barn doors- Used to shape the beam and can only go on Fresnel lanterns.
Health and safety

When rigging lights you need to be trained because you are working with
electricity because there are always risks of getting electric sock and burns as
lanterns get very hot.
You need to be trained to use the lighting tower as its made of scaffolding and
could potentially fall and hurt yourself.
Fire exits should be clear and visible in case there is a fire.
Both hands should be on the ladder when climbing at all times. Don’t skip any
steps and locked the ladder under force by footing it.
No hazards.
Have lanterns prepared with safety cables or chains.
And don’t mess around with the lights
