2023-24 Montgomery Golf – Tryout Info

The Montgomery Golf team is not a place for absolute beginners. There is an expectation that you will
know how to play some golf at a competitive level. Basic understanding of the rules is necessary.
There will be an expectation that you are going to improve at the sport and work hard to get better
every day. We play golf as a sport, not as a game. If you like to compete and work to get better, this is
the environment you’re looking for. If you just like to be at the course messing around with friends
and think you’re good enough already, this is not the environment for you.

Anyone wishing to try-out for the golf program will need to email Coach Hamilton as soon as
possible with their intent to try-out.
In the email, please include the following: Name, Email Address, Home Course, Instructor, and
Summer Tournament Schedule. matthew.hamilton@misd.org

All players wishing to compete on the Montgomery Golf team will be required to tryout this year

Everyone who signs up to tryout will play 9 holes of stroke play each day, August 8th and 9th at
Walden.
Cheating, throwing clubs, profanity, or being disrespectful to other players will not be tolerated. I pay
attention to much more than simply golf scores during this process. Important characteristics I look at
are work ethic, attitude, how you treat people, and body language.

Tee times will be assigned one week before the tryout dates and will be posted on our website.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me.

18-hole tryout will not be the only factor in deciding who makes the team.
Coaches will be looking at summer tournament scores, past year results, school grades and discipline.

It is not required for anyone to compete in summer golf tournaments, but I HIGHLY encourage those
who are trying out to play summer golf. It is the fastest way to improve at competitive golf. But it is
not required. Beltway Tour & STPGA (Junior Tour and Prestige Tour), TJGT, Legends Tour, AJGA

There will be a cut to Varsity and JV teams. Number of players on each team depend on year-to-
year competition level. The Junior Varsity will be made up of Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen
only. In order to avoid big fall offs in any given year, there will be Freshmen that will be kept each
year. The exact number can vary.

You must have a UIL physical and all RankOne paperwork completed by the time of the 18 hole
tryout. You will not be allowed to tryout if you don’t have a physical filed with our Athletic Trainers or
the online paperwork completed. Please see the Athletic Forms link on the MISD Athletic website to
complete the necessary paperwork. Please feel free to email with any questions.
