Los Corales del Rosario and San
Bernardo National Natural Park is a
valuable underwater ecosystem of
the highest productivity and
biodiversity, forming the most
extensive coral platform of the
Colombian continental Caribbean
(about 420 km2). There are the most
important continental reef
formations in the country, unique
examples of coastal mangrove
forests, extensive sea grasses that
border the islands, a diversity of
invertebrates and a multitude of
multicolored reef fish.

 FLORA
The Protected Area is
characterized by being mostly
underwater where mangrove
vegetation and seagrasses
predominate. In terms of
terrestrial vegetation, there is
a remnant of tropical dry
forest on Rosario Island
(untouchable zone) in the
Archipelago of Nuestra Señora
del Rosario.
FAUNA
In the Protected Area, a great
variety of species associated with
coastal marine ecosystems have
been identified. with 153 species;
mollusks with 244 species, no
less than 153 species of
echinoderms, 199 species of
sponges and 513 species of fish.
As for reptiles, in the area we
can find sea turtles of the
species Caretta caretta,
Chelonia mydas and Eretmochelys
imbricata.
 COMINUTIES
Currently, the Afro-
descendant
communities of the San
Bernardo archipelago,
Corales del Rosario and
the insular peninsula of
Barú have Community
Councils with collective
territory titled as Black
communities.
