PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY

Session 1 – The DepEd’s Mandate

Required Task 1: Reflection Questions

Reflect on the DepEd’s mandate and respond to the questions below. You may
respond in 2-5 sentences for each. As a newly hired teacher in DepEd, what can you
contribute to:
a. promote quality education?

Quality education is essential for ensuring that all students have the knowledge, skills, and values they
need to thrive in the 21st century. It requires a commitment to access, equity, relevance, quality of teaching, and
measurable learning outcomes. As a new teacher, I can contribute to the promotion of quality education by
looking for fresh, creative ways to engage and educate students. I think that I can do this by using
innovative teaching techniques. Make an effort to incorporate technology, practical exercises, and group projects
into my class planning.

b. Uphold equity in education

Promoting equity in education necessitates a dedication to developing a welcoming learning

environment, ensuring that all students have an equal chance to learn, personalizing instruction,
working with families and communities, utilizing culturally sensitive teaching techniques, and removing
institutional obstacles. I can support these initiatives as a recently hired DepEd teacher by fostering a
welcoming learning environment that encourages equity and supports the academic success of all students.
c. respond to the needs of the learners?

Conducting needs analyses, using differentiated instruction, offering individualized support,

incorporating student feedback, working with colleagues, best practices, and utilizing technology to
enhance instruction are all necessary to meeting the needs of the learners. I can support these initiatives as a
recently hired DepEd teacher by fostering a positive learning environment that caters to the various needs of
my students.

Key topic 1: DepEd’s Vision

Scenario 1
Teacher Johanna is a Grade 7 teacher at Jacobo Z. Gonzales Memorial National High school. She encourages her
learners to demonstrate their love of country through practicing acts of kindness inside and outside the school premises.
Provide at least two ways of integrating this in her lessons. You may respond in 3-5 sentences.

Teacher Johanna can incorporate regular discussions and reflections in her lessons to foster a sense of patriotism
and kindness. She can facilitate class conversations about the importance of compassion, empathy, and respect for
others. Learners can share personal experiences or stories related to acts of kindness they have witnessed or
performed. Through these discussions, learners can deepen their understanding of how acts of kindness contribute to
the well-being of their community and country, fostering a sense of love and responsibility towards their nation.
