PERIPATETIC LOGIC: EUDEMUS OF RHODES AND

THEOPHRASTUS OF ERESUS

1. Brief History of Aristotle’s school and the Peripatetics

(Eudemus and Theophrastus)
a. Example: Aristotle created the Lyceum, a school in
Athens where he taught and did research in many fields
of philosophy, science, mathematics, and other
subjects such as art and music. The students at
Aristotle's school were called Peripatetics, a term
that also applies to scholars centuries later who took up
the ideas of those at the school. After Aristotle left the
Lyceum, it was taken over by Theophrastus, another
Peripatetic philosopher... (source: study.com)

Aristotle’s existing idea of ‘logic’
b. Mention that changes were primarily made in
Syllogisms (especially in the Prosleptic Syllogisms and

i. Discuss the parts of Syllogism.
Example:
A syllogism is a three step method of framing an
argument. First is the Major Premise, an
assumption or argument meant to be taken as
fact. Next is the Minor Premise, another
assumption/argument that serves to substantiate
the Major Premise. Finally, a Conclusion is drawn
from both the Major and Minor Premises.

Aristotle proposed?

how is different from Aristotle’s
