1. Purpose
This document is intended to capture the information of the SAP Data Archiving implementation
detail at AMUL. Since SAP Implementation at AMUL in year 2011, and with further roll-out for
various unions, the number of SAP users and daily transactions increased significantly resulting
in faster database growth. The high volumes of transactional data associated with certain
business processes within SAP:
 Have a considerable effect on the Total Cost of Ownership of SAP
 Impact overall system performance from an end user perspective
To address the exponential data growth issue for few business transactions, it is decided to
perform Data archiving for historical data using SAP standard data archiving feature.
Data Archiving is the process of removing mass data from the SAP database combined with
ongoing storage of this data on to secondary media. After removal, this archived data is still
accessible to end users via their SAP Standard Interfaces or the third-party tools. The large
volumes of data accumulating in the SAP R/3 database has significant impact on system
performance, dialog response times, time required for backup the system and finally overall cost
of utilization.
