DEAN’S OFFICE
Academic officials known as deans oversee the academic, programmatic, managerial,
and financial aspects of a school. Deans are in charge of student recruiting, admission,
and academic advancement in addition to ensuring that instruction is adequate and
maintaining academic integrity.

Dean’s Office Design and Renovation Considerations

There are a few concepts that should be considered when approaching a Dean’s office design
and renovation:

A. Creating a welcoming entry.

The office entry, being one of the first locations encountered by both guests and students,
sets the tone for the office environment. It should be both secure and accessible. Examine its
proximity to other key support areas, such as nurse and counseling offices as well as
administration offices. Natural daylighting, material and color choices, and furniture selection all
contribute to a welcoming entrance.

B. Taking inspiration from the corporate environment.

Open floor layouts, collaboration areas, and flexible workspaces all contribute to the creation
of environments that bring employers and students together. These places bridge the academic
and corporate worlds by encouraging an open flow of creative ideas.

C. Choosing flexible furniture.

Modern business furniture design ideas include smaller offices with collaboration zones for
employees. Flexible and ergonomic furniture, as well as the option of sit/stand work surfaces,
are ideal. Instead of barriers, desks can now be outfitted with privacy panels. Furniture that is
easy to move and supports mobile electronics allows the space to evolve over time. Flip tops
and casters allow for rapid transfer and stacking furniture to the side for a quick change of
atmosphere. Offices with screened glass windows adjacent to student waiting areas promote
transparency and student interaction.

D. Designing spaces to be more efficient.

Several places, such as file closets and enormous server rooms, have become outdated as
a result of technological advancements. Turning these areas into collaborative spaces can bring
value. Adaptability and flexibility ensure long-term operating efficiencies.

E. Maximize the natural light.

Employee morale, attitude, vitality, and mental wellness are all boosted by natural sunlight.
Natural light can boost employee productivity while also improving creativity and focus.
Adjusting the lighting might also have an impact. Blue-enriched light bulbs can improve
employees' alertness, memory and cognitive performance, and mood.

F. Consider space zoning.

Another popular workplace design method is to designate discrete areas for various duties..
These are the areas that can create distinctive and enjoyable surroundings. Breakout areas can
be created to foster a lively brainstorming session or to provide a quiet, serene haven where an
employee can put his feet up and focus on a comprehensive report.

TYPES OF OFFICE LAYOUT THAT CAN APPLY ON DEAN’S OFFICE

A. Traditional Office
A traditional office layout is made up of individual offices that are “built-in” meaning that they are
permanent or semi-permanent. This office style will include a combination of enclosed offices
and meeting spaces with a more open reception area for receiving customers.

B. Cubicle Office Layout

A cubicle office layout is a type of open office plan where the workspaces are created using
partition walls on three sides to form a box or “cubicle”. This style of workspace is more space
and cost efficient compared to built-in offices. It is typically used in combination with built-in
meeting rooms and private offices for senior staff.

C. Low Partition Office

A low partition office is the more modern version of the cubicle office, where the height of the
partition walls around the workspaces is lower to allow for more light and interaction between
workers. Like a cubicle office, it may include built-in meeting rooms and offices if more privacy is
required.

D. Team-Based Layout
A team-based layout groups workers by team. The size and space allocated to each
team vary depending on the type of work that needs to get done. A team workspace will often
include individual workstations and a collaboration space. This reduces the need for meeting
rooms.

E. Open-Plan Office
An open-plan office does away with partition walls altogether. Instead, work areas are
created and defined using furniture. Desks may be lined up side by side to create “banks” or
they may be replaced with multi-person work tables called “benches”. Tables and lounge
seating are used to create informal meeting and collaboration areas. The appeal of this type of
office is that it is very flexible and can expand, contract and be reconfigured easily.

F. Hybrid Office Layout

The hybrid office is one of the newest office types. It combines elements of all the above
office styles based on the needs of the office. Innovative new office systems are making this
more possible and easier than ever.

G. Co-Working Office Layout

Co-working offices are one of the great workplace innovations of this century. It allows to access
to all the aspects of a modern office without having to create it. Like a hybrid office, a co-work
office will offer a range of workspaces from open lounge areas to private offices and meeting
rooms.

H. Home Office
Home offices are more popular than ever as flex-time and work from home programs have
made it possible. The layout of home office requires careful consideration as well to make it an
efficient and productive place to get work done.
