Week 5 Discussion

Hello everyone,

When working on a project as a team or even individually, it is very crucial to employ the

use process flow diagrams. They have become integral tools in the context of business project

management (Asana, 2022). They help in streamlining, analyzing and improving the overall

process of the project. In my area of specialization, networking specialization, process flow

diagrams are extensively required. In networking, they are used to illustrate the how data flows

in various protocols such as HTTP and TCP. Apart from this, they are also used to show how

data transmission occurs through various networking components such as switches and routers.

Under various circumstances, networks would also need to be optimized. Like the case for our

project, we need to optimize the performance of the networks. Process flow diagrams are also

used in documenting how the network will be optimized so as to avoid potential failures in times

of high traffic. When designing an entirely new network, process flow diagrams are used to

document the various steps to be undertaken in a bid to achieve this.

As a networking specialist, I will need create a process diagram for scaling and

expanding the current network so that it can support access to our in-house system which will be

migrated to the cloud. The process includes coming up with new logical and physical topologies.

It will also upgrading the current infrastructure in order to achieve the desired expansion. Also,

for the security purposes, network security will be given a big priority since there will the need to

filter traffic. The process will involve documenting the installation and configuration of

firewalls.

It is a fact that regardless of how useful the diagrams are, not everyone understands them.

This calls for the need to accompany them with a description. In the business requirements, it

will be important to have both a diagram and a description of the process. The project has inputs

from different people with different specialization. A process flow diagram is a high-level

documentation which can only be well understood by whoever drew it because it relates to their

specific area of specialization. However, we do not want this since everybody needs to

understand the process. A description of the process will help everyone understand the process

regardless of their area of specialization. It is therefore important to include both the diagram and

a description of it in the business requirements.
