Anemometer

(Vane Anemometer for velocity and flow measurements)

Working principle:
Vane Anemometers work on the principle that a freely spinning turbine will rotate
at a speed that is directly proportional to the wind speed. With a quick calibration,
a device can then display a wind speed measurement.

𝐴𝑖𝑟𝐹𝑙𝑜𝑤 𝑄 ( ) = 𝐴𝑟𝑒𝑎(𝑚2 ) ∗ 𝐴𝑖𝑟𝑓𝑙𝑜𝑤 𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑦( )

For Example, if you want to measure air flow of fan take the measurements of
velocity (approximately 8 points of each fan) and then take average, also you
need area of this fan.

If diameter of fan inlet is = 560 𝑚𝑚 → 0.56 𝑚

560 𝑚𝑚

𝜋𝑑 2 𝜋(0.56)2
Area of a circle 𝐴 = → = 0.246 𝑚2

Note: you can find the area of the fan in the technical data manual, but it is
recommended to measure it from the site to double-check.

Average Velocity: 19.44

𝑚3
𝐴𝑖𝑟𝐹𝑙𝑜𝑤 𝑄 ( ) = 𝐴𝑟𝑒𝑎 (0.246) ∗ 𝐴𝑖𝑟𝑓𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑦(19.44)
𝑠

𝑚3 𝑚3 𝑚3
∴ 𝐴𝑖𝑟𝐹𝑙𝑜𝑤 𝑄 ( ) = 4.78 → 17216
𝑠 𝑠 ℎ
The total volume flow can be converted to mass flow by multiplying
the total volume flow by the actual gas density at the measuring
point conditions:

𝑘𝑔
𝜌 = 1,120 , take density from technical data for the equipment
𝑚3

𝑘𝑔 𝑚3 𝑘𝑔
∴ 𝑀𝑎𝑠𝑠 𝐹𝑙𝑜𝑤 ( ℎ ) = 17216 ℎ
× 1,120 𝑚3

𝑘𝑔
𝑀𝑎𝑠𝑠 𝐹𝑙𝑜𝑤 𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒 = 19281.92
