Is it possible to become successful without higher education?

Nowadays, some people believe higher education is necessary for success, and there is no future
without Bachelor's degree as a minimum. However, others still claim that success is not about
studying. A University education is not a guarantee of getting a well-paid job and having a
successful future because it is still possible to make a name for yourself without a diploma.

Firstly, there are real examples of people who managed to be successful without getting a higher
education. Here are the most famous ones - Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. For instance, Bill Gates -
the co-founder of Microsoft, is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world. He
dropped out of Harvard to start Microsoft. Now it is the largest software company in the world.
Next, Steve Jobs - is the co-founder of one of the most successful companies in the world-
Apple. He dropped out of Reed College after one semester, but it did not affect his future career.
Although they don’t have diplomas, they can still run their business and earn good money.

Secondly, some jobs require special skills, talents, and the ability to cope with difficult situations
instead of knowledge gained at the university. To illustrate this, nowadays, owners of modern
companies hire employees according to the tests which show the level of creativity and the
ability to cooperate with others. Employers don’t pay much attention to the diplomas of their
workers but to their ability to work. As a result, to become successful, you need to work on
developing skills and qualities useful in modern society.

Finally, higher education is usually about theory, but it can’t provide you with the special
practical skills necessary to become successful. For instance, American industrialist and inventor
Henry Ford decided to drop out of university and find a job as a mechanic. The experience
gained played a key role in his later life: Henry Ford later became a mechanic at the Edison
Illuminating Company, designed his first car, and founded the Ford Motor Company.

To conclude, some people don’t want to study at the university for several reasons, but they still
reach success. Higher education can’t provide you immediately with a well-paid job, and what is
needed to achieve success is personal skills and talents. A diploma is not a one hundred percent
guarantee of being successful in this life.
