have always been friends and(16) classmates. (17)Like all their other friends, they enjoy going fishing or
swimming at weekends.(18) But for the last few months, they’ve spent every weekend in Peter’s room
working on his laptop. This isn’t because they have a lot of homework. They have made a new
computer word game.
The idea for the game came from Frazer’s little brother, Kevin, who had problems with his
reading. Kevin learns words more easily by seeing pictures and hearing information than he does by
reading. His brother wanted to help. Frazer and Peter worked together for over 200 hours(20) to make a
computer game and now it’s ready to use. It’s a speaking and picture game. For example, if you look at
the word ‘hat’, there’s a drawing of a hat next to it and you can hear Peter saying “Hat! Hat!”at the same

Bollywood
‘Bollywood’, which is the name of the film industry in Mumbai, India, makes almost 1,000 films
a year. Since making its first film in 1913, Bollywood has made over 29,000 films. This is a much higher
number than the USA and means it is the biggest film industry in the world. Most Indians like watching
films better than any other free-time activity and ten million of them go to the cinema every day.
Bollywood films tell romantic love stories, and singing and dancing are an important part of every film.
Indian films are also outside India. Last year, Bollywood made over $500 million by selling its films to
other countries.
Indian actors make more films each year than American actors in Hollywood, but they are not
paid as much. This is why most Bollywood films only cost about $2 million to make. A Hollywood film
is never made for under $5 million.
Most Bollywood actors are young. They work hard but only for a few years. Amitabh Bachchan,
who some people say is India’s greatest actor, is different. He has been the star of more than 140 films
during an acting career of almost 40 years.

Something strange falls from the sky
Mikayla Shears was riding her horse across the field at the farm where she and her parents live in
Australia last November, when she saw something very strange on the ground. ‘At first I was afraid to
touch it!’ she said. ‘I thought something may jump out of it!’ It was a 22 kilo ball made of lots of
different metal parts.
Mikayla called her dad and he came in a truck and drove it back to the farmhouse. People don’t
drive hundreds of miles across the desert area to leave a metal ball in the middle of a field. ‘It dropped
from above!’ he said. ‘I was sure of that!’
Mikayla’s father emailed a photo of the ball to the Planet Museum. He was told that the ball was
possibly part of a rocket. Two days earlier a rocket was used to fly an American satellite into space to
study the sun. Most of it fell into the sea after the satellite was safely in space, but maybe this part didn’t.
‘I know a lot about cows and sheep.’ Mikayla said, ‘but I don’t know anything about rockets. I

On my favorite day, we went on a really long walk in the mountains. We had to carry all our
things in bags on our backs which was hard work but we never got bored because we all chatted the
whole time. We had a rock climbing lesson just before our picnic lunch and later that afternoon, we
arrived at a lake where we camped for the night. Three of the others tried to fished, without success! I
helped build the fire instead. The teachers and two of the older students made supper, then we sat in our
blankets around the fire and sang songs and made wishes in the dark.
We decided not to sleep inside the tents, but outdoors because we wanted to look at the stars.

An amazing adventure
Erden Eruc is Turkish but now lives in Seatle, USA with his wife Nancy. In July 2012, he
completed an amazing 5- year journey, becoming the first person ever to travel all the way around the
world with no help from engines or sails. All he used were his all arms and legs to cycle, row and walk
around the world.
His plan before beginning the trip was to climb the highest mountain on each of the six continents
that he went through. Unfortunately, he was able to climb three of them because of bad weather and
money problems.
Erden spends a lot of his time on the trip rowing his boat. His journey across the Pacific Ocean
took 312 days. Being alone for that much time was not at all easy, but he kept busy by listening to music
and studying Spanish. He took dried food with him and had a water machine to make water out of sea

David Rawson, 15, is one of the best rowers of his age in the USA. He comes from Connecticut,
and spends most of his free time practicing on many rivers near his home.
David’s dad, Martin, also enjoys rowing. “David’s much better than me, but I go with him when I
can”, he says. David’s mother, Wendy, doesn’t go rowing herself but she is happy to take them to and
from the rivers in her car.
It’s an expensive sport. The Rawson has seven boats, costing between $ 1500 and $4000 each. But
you can see how important rowing is to the family when you go to their home. There are many photos of
David rowing boats in the garage.
About 18 months ago, David started rowing on the sea. This sport is similar to surfing except that
you sit in a special boat instead of standing on a board. David loves it, and it means he can continue with

Round the world in 80 days
Mike Moyle is certainly not your average 15 years old secondary-school student. That is, unless most 15
years old spend their time travelling around the world these days. Mike, you see, has been to more countries in the
last two years than most people get to see in a lifetime. Why? Well, it’s something to do with Mike’s very unique
talent – he’s a brilliant tennis player.
Sure, there are a lot of good young tennis players around, but Mike’s a little different; after all, it’s not
often a kid Mike’s age turn professional and starts competing on the main men’s tour before he’s even been able to
grow a beard. In fact, I can’t remember the last time that happened.
When I met Mike, I hoped to ask him what life is like what life is like for a 15 years old superstar of the sport
world, but Mike didn’t want to talk tennis with me; all he wanted to talk about was his travels; ‘I can’t believe how
much I’ve been this year to see all those amazing places I’ve been to’, he began
‘At the start of the year when no one had heard of me and I had no sponsors, I used to travel whatever
way I could to get from one event to the next. To get to Northern Russia for a challenger event, I took the Trans-
Siberian Railway – it was unreal; a beautiful, white, snow carpet covering the landscape’
‘This one time, after Lolla Cars had started to sponsor me, we did a promotional event where they took
me in one of their sports models on a six day tour of the American coast. There also was the time when I was late
for a tournament in Ireland. I was meant to catch a ferry from Wales, but there was a fishermen’s strike and they’d
blocked the sport. My team hired a helicopter to take me across the Irish sea. I’d never been in a helicopter before,
so I was like ‘wow’. What’s more, I got to see a pod of dolphins down below as we crossed the Irish sea.’

Unusual Talent
Stevie Starr is a performer who first became famous when he appeared on the television talent show
Britain’s Got Talent. Stevie’s unusual talent quickly made him a big hit. In less than a week, a video of him
performing on BGT, as the show is known, was watched more than a million times.
So what does Stevie do? He swallows things and then brings them back up again. By things I don’t mean
food though; Stevie’s eating habits are a little stranger than most. He has been known to swallow golf balls,
snooker balls, keys, rings – you name it, Stevie has probably swallowed it! And the amazing thing is, everything he
swallows comes back up good as new.
Stevie says he learned his unique talent as a young boy in children’s home. The bigger boys would bully him
and steal his pocket money, so Stevie started to swallow the coins to keep them safe. Then, when he needed one, he
learned to bring it back up into his mouth again.
Ever since his appearance on BGT Stevie has been very busy performing his act to audiences around the
world. In fact, these days his tour schedule is totally full and it’s all thanks to his performance on live TV – even
though he never even made it to the final of the talent show, which just goes to that you don’t always have to win
to become a success.
Stevie says he is the only one that does this, swallowing things, as his job. One thing it for sure, his act
certainly is very unique – and very dangerous. Most people would give themselves a serious injury if they tried to
swallow the things Stevie does. They might even cause themselves to choke. So just remember; Stevie is a
professional; enjoy his act, but never – ever- try this at home!
