Section 6-B
DESIGN OF A COAGULATION AND FLOCCULATION
TANK

Study Area:
The area we selected was Mehria Town, Attock, Punjab, Pakistan.

Total Covered Area:

The total covered area of this society is 1614.2 kanal or 8789318.08 sq.ft

Residencial Area:
We considered 65% of total covered area of this society as residential area which is
1049.23 Kanal or 5713056.754 sq.ft

Total Area 8789318.08 sq.ft

Residential Area 5713056.754 sq.ft
Average plot size 2000 sq.ft (8 Marla)
No. of House 2857
Avg No of persons in a house 6
Population 17139
Daily water Demand 180lit/cap/day
Average Daily Demand 3085020lit/day
Maximum Daily Demand 4627530lit/day

➢ Design of Sedimentation Tank:

• Considerations
Depth of tank = 5m
Detention time = 4 hours
• Design
Q = 4627530lit/day = 193m^3/hr
Q = B*L*D / T
B*L = 154.4m^2
As we know that the length of sedimentation tank should be less the 30ft or 9m
so,
Let length = 8m
So, B = 19m
Total D = D+ Free board + 20% sludge storage
= 5 + 0.5 + 1
= 6.5m
➢ Design of Flocculation Tank:

• Considerations
Depth = 2.25m
Detention Time = 25min

• Design
Q = 4627530lit/day = 193m^3/hr
Q = B*L*D / T
B*L = 36m^2
Breadth of sedimentation and flocculation tank is same so,
B = 19m
L = 2m
