1.6 Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for

a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats, and
digital media appropriate for their goals.
1.7 Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich
their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in
teams locally and globally.

Objectives The students will identify letters and produce their sounds using the Sand Draw
app.

Differentiation This activity will have auditory and visual learners will have letter cards we
Strategies review before using the app. The kinesthetic learners can make the letters with
their bodies to make the letters as well as use the app. For my special needs
learners, I will write the letter on the Sand Draw app, then have them try to write
it as well. I have them repeat the letter name and sound after me as we use the
app.

E Description

Engagement I will open the lesson using an alphabet video on the Viewsonic board. The video
will be one that has the students' work out to the letters and their sounds by Jack
Hartmann.

Engagement In Pre-K, we use observation as our assessment tool. We walk around during
Assessment the lesson listening to what the students are saying. We stop and ask questions
about the letters. We may ask: Can you tell me a word that begins with this
letter? We document this by writing anecdotal notes. After the students come
back from using their iPad, they will have the option to “be the teacher” and write
letters on the Viewsonic board.

Exploration After our letter video and going over our Phonics first card, the students will
collaborate with a partner to write letters in the Sand Draw app. They will call out
letters to each other to write. They will produce the letter sound together. The
students can discuss words that begin with that letter.

Exploration Assess the students’ knowledge after they complete the exploration activity.
Assessment Include the tool you will use to assess the students in his section.

Explanation We will be covering letter naming and the production of their sounds. The
students will use the multisensory Phonics First cards to go over letters. These
cards have a picture as well. When we use them, we say A Apple /a/. I ask the
students what other words they can think of that begin with the letter A. The
students will be using the Sand Draw app to write the letters. They really enjoy it

when they erase what they write or draw. It looks like a wave washes it away.

Explanation Include another formative assessment in this section.

Elaboration Replace these directions with your work.

In small groups, we will create a letter presentation using Google Slides. Each
small group will have one adult to help the children navigate. The students will
add a letter to a page then add pictures of items beginning with that letter. The
students will record themselves saying the letter name and making the sound to
add to their book.
