Pedagogy
Activity In this activity, students will download the mobile
application Shapego to create word collages. The
students will begin by selecting their favorite
academic book and choose ten vocabulary words
that are unfamiliar to them. After the students have
picked their ten words, they are to search the
definitions of their chosen words so that the words
are no longer unfamiliar to them. Once the students
have downloaded the application, they can choose
from a limited selection of shapes or choose to
upload their own shapes. By clicking the pencil icon,
the students will type in their ten vocabulary words
that they chose. Once finished, the students will
click save and their ten words will form a word

In this activity, students will download the mobile
application Padlet to interact as well as collaborate
with one another. This activity requires students to
use Padlet a little differently. Students will be placed
in groups of four. In these groups, students will use
Padlet to communicate outside the classroom. For
this activity, Padlet will be used as a pen pal tool. For
one week, students will use Padlet to write pen pal
“letters” to one another discussing what happened
during class that week. This allows students to share
different perspectives on what is being taught that
week. Each student in the group will contribute to
writing a letter by stating “To (person’s name)…”
then continuing on with their letter. These “letters”

collage within the shape of their choosing. At the
end of this activity, students can volunteer to share
have their word collages displayed for the class to
see.
As the teacher, I will also create my own word
collage using Shapego so that I can provide an
example as well as be able to share my work with
the students.

This is a free application that is available in the app
store. This application is used to create word
collages. This application is unique due to it’s ability
will be posted up on the groups digital bulletin board
so that all of the group members can see the
“letters”, even if that particular “letter” wasn’t
written to them.
As the teacher, I will give a tutorial on Padlet so that
the students are well prepared to complete the
activity. I will also have access to the students
group’s work so that I can monitor their activity on
Padlet.
