Prompts
1. Describe the routines you saw or not.
Students are greeted by their teacher at the door. Students take their seats and pull out the
planner and note down the homework. Students then work on the warm-up/do-now activity.
All these instructions/reminders are displayed on the whiteboard along with the warm-up/do-
now. While students are on task, teacher reminded students to use the bathroom or sharpen
pencils if needed in the next 5 minutes. They practiced Mindful Minute before they started on
their daily lecture/lesson.

2. How did the teacher get everyone's attention?

There were couple of ways the teacher got the student’s attention:
She used the singing bowl. When they heard the sound of the singing bowl, they stopped table
conversations and raised their hand until the sound of the singing bowl died down. She also
used phrase “raise your hand if you hear me”.

3. What was visible to the observer in terms of rules or regulations?

Be prepared for the class
Raise your hand to speak
Respect when someone else is talking

4. How would you describe the respect you saw--teacher to student, student to student?
Teacher showed respect to students by giving them attention when they had something to
share/say. She appreciated them for following instructions. Students showed respect to
students by paying attention when someone else was talking. They would raise their hand and
speak when it was their turn if they wanted to share or add something to the discussion
without speaking over each other. Students also encouraged fellow students when they
answered question right or helped them when they were stuck at a certain step.

5. What questions would you like to ask the teacher about management based on what you
saw or what you want to know?
I would like to ask the teacher if there were consequences established for not following certain
rules and regulation? Was that made clear or informed to the students.
Summary Statement about Observation :
The teacher had well established rules and regulations. She did not have to repeat or remind
the students about them. The teacher had proactive rather than reactive approach to her
classroom management. She respected them and expected the students to respect her and
everyone else in the classroom.

Reflection on My Management:
It is important to have a well-established classroom rules and regulations as it directly impacts
your time to teach or deliver the lesson planned. It is very important to know your students and
practice the rules and routines consistently, so the students get the message you value what
you say. It is important to model the ideal behavior. It is very important to introduce it first
week of class and then keep practicing them.
