Pedagogy Activity The students will be using the Quizlet mobile
application to create and collaborate. The teacher
will show the students the basic navigation tools to
create flashcards on Quizlet. Once the teacher feels
comfortable with the students understanding of
Quizlet, then the students will collaborate with
their assigned reading groups on creating flashcards
that identify narrative elements.
The students will be in groups reading different
books. Each group will define the elements of
fiction using their group book they are currently
reading. They will define setting, theme, character,
plot (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action,
and resolution), and conflict. They will also give an
example of each element of fiction used in their
book.
Once each group completes their flashcards, the
students will try other groups’ flashcards. This will
give other groups a taste of what other books are
about. Each group will make their Quizlet public, so
that other groups can view their content. Students
can refer to other groups’ Quizlets to help them get
a better understanding of the material.

Before you submit, delete the explanatory text (the text in small italics).
For this activity the teacher will acclimate the
students with Evernote by showing them the
features and tools associated with using the app.
Once the students understand how to create a
document using the class notes template, they will
create and collaborate with partners on an
assignment posted by the instructor. The teacher
will share the assignment with each group for them
to work on.
First, the students will all download the Evernote
mobile app and collaborate with fellow group
member in creating a fill in the blank quiz, relating
to examples of figurative language. This includes
examples of simile, metaphor, hyperbole,
personification, and imagery. This document will be
available for all group members to edit. The teacher
will also have access to this document from his or
her mobile device. The students can also use the
check list feature in Evernote to ensure that they
have covered all the areas of figurative language.
Once each group finishes creating their assignment,
they will submit it to the teacher. The teacher will
then post all the assignments submitted by each
group and have the students work together in their
groups to fill out other group’s quizzes.
