We use modals of advice to give

advice and say what we think is a
good or bad idea.

SHOULD

Should is the most common

modal of advice. It can be used
with questions, negative
sentences, and affirmative
sentences.
EXAMPLES: 04

You should bring an umbrella.
I should pay attention to the lyrics.
HAD BETTER 05

Had better is the strongest

modal of advice. It implies that
if you don't follow the advice,
something bad will happen.

It can be used with negative

and affirmative sentences.
Structure: Subject + had better +
infinitive + complement
EXAMPLES:

Use: We use had better to refer to
the present or the future to talk
about actions we think people
should do or which are desirable in
a specific situation.

It is used to express opinions or something

probable. It is formal.
