BONUSES
In order to be included in an assessment of a wage, remuneration in the form of bonus should be:
received by most production workers
received regularly, so it is an amount workers can count on receiving on a regular basis.
received within one year; (annual bonus can count; provident fund or pension would not)
prorated over a 12-month period to be included in the payroll calculation

Do not include bonuses earned in overtime hours or payment for overtime work.
Do not include paid time off for holidays, annual leave, sick leave, maternity or paternity benefits.
If production bonuses are awarded on an irregular basis, earned by only some workers, and require overtime hours to achieve, they should not be included.
Examples of bonuses that might be included in "OTHER" are: school allowance, travel allowance, inflation allowance, etc.

IN-KIND PAYMENT
1 Does the benefit qualify?
In order to be included in a wage, remuneration in the form of in-kind benefits should:
be listed in the grid below as one of eight accepted in-kind benefits
be given to the majority of workers
be delivered at cost (or free) to worker
be given to workers on a regular basis
meets applicable minimum standards for quality, safety, etc.
be of benefit and value to workers and their families and for personal use
meet any legal restrictions
2 Estimate the value of the benefit.
Each benefit must have an estimated monetary value that:
cannot exceed the cost to the employer
cannot exceed replacement cost to worker if they purchased on the market
cannot exceed maximum limit allowed by law for that benefit
The value used should be the LOWEST of these 3.
3 Ensure all in-kind benefits combined do not exceed 30% of the wage.
See auditor guidance for special exceptions where employers provide workers and their families with all or most of their basic needs.
This 30% maximum includes
15% maximum for housing
10% maximum for other benefits such as food and transport
Note: The total value of in kind benefits counted toward partial payment of a wage should not bring the cash wage below the minimum wage
where prohibited by local law.
