Question 1: Basic counting [20]

1.1. How many multiples of 3 are there on the interval [3100;5100) (3)

1.2. How many passwords can be formed by using the letters a to z (passwords are case sensitive,
meaning the letter f and F are NOT considered the same; repeating characters are allowed;
you don’t have to calculate the “answer” – just leave it as a sum/product) if: (5)

1.2.1. The password consists of exactly 6 characters /2/

1.2.2. The password is minimum length 8 and maximum length 10 /3/

1.3. How many students must be in a class to ensure that at least 2 of them have their student
number ending in the same 3 digits (3)

1.4. A test must be set with 15 questions that must be selected as follows: 8 questions on
Counting, 2 questions on Proofs, and 5 questions on Logic. The test can be set using questions
from a question bank that contains 20 questions on Counting, 10 questions on Proofs, and 15
questions on Logic. (9)

1.4.1. In how many ways can the test be set? You don’t have to calculate the final answer, just
write the calculation. /3/

1.4.2. If two of the Proofs questions overlap significantly and shouldn’t be included together in a
test, how many ways are there to set the test then? Again, only write the calculation, not
the answer. /3/

1.4.3. If two of the Counting questions refer to each other and should be included together or not
at all, how many ways are there to set the test then? Again, only the calculation. Treat this
question on its own/separate from 1.4.2. (In other words, do NOT include the conditions of
the Logic questions here) /3/

Question 2: Graphs and trees [20]

2.1. Write down the adjacency matrix of the following graph (4)

2.2. Draw the binary search tree for the following clothes brands: Levi, Armani, Nike, Gucci,
Prada, and Versace (3)

2.3. Determine the order of vertices visited in the following tree: (6)

2.3.1. If pre-order traversal is used /2/

2.3.2. If in-order traversal is used /2/

2.3.3. If post-order traversal is used /2/

2.4. Which 2 graphs are isomorph? Circle the correct letters underneath the graphs (3)

A B C D

2.5. Draw the correct minimum spanning tree for the following graph: (4)
