Intoduction of the Study

This chapter consist of 5 parts. It includes (1) Background of the

Study, (2) Statement of the Problem ,(3)Significance of the Study ,(4) Scope

and Delimitation, (5)Definition of Terms.

Part One, Background of the Study, presents a concise discussion of the

problem. It serves as a strategic compass for the research proceeding to

address the objective of the study, thereby justifying and contextualizing the

study.

Part Two, Statement of the Problem, states what the study aims to do

and find out. It provides the framework for the presentation of results and

places the topic into a particular context.

Part Three, Significance of the Study, explains the relevance and

usefulness of the study. It discusses what people or groups of people might

benefit from the research.

Part Four, Delimitation of the Study, specifies the scope and the limit of

the study. It describes situations and circumstances that may affect or

restrict the research process and analysis of research data as it defines the
parameters of the study.

Part Five. Definition of Terms, presents the conceptual and operational

meaning of the important terms used in the study. It ensures a common

understanding of key concepts and terminology in the research.

Backround of the Study

A business is a commercial activity that involves supplying goods

or services in return for profit. It might be an occupation, profession, or trade.

Profits in business aren't always monetary. It can be any type of benefit that is

recognized by a business entity engaged in abusiness activity. Let's break

down the business definition into two parts: business entity definition and

business activity definition. An organization or any other entity involved in

commercial, professional, charitable, or industrial operations is referred

to as a business entity. It could be a profitable entity or a non-profit entity and

could or might not exist separately from the persons controlling it. A business

activity is a type of economic activity that entails the provision of goods or

services with the primary goal of profit.

Small businesses are important because they provide

opportunities for entrepreneurs and create meaningful jobs with greater job

satisfaction than positions with larger, traditional companies. They foster

local economies, keeping money close to home and supporting

neighborhoods and communities.

Small and local businesses have more community impact than on

their designated once-a-year Small Business Saturday awareness events. The

ability to reflect a community’s character and interact with their neighbors on

both a business and personal level is something many large corporations are

unable to do. Celebrating a small business is more than just complimenting

its quirk or hipster audience — it’s recognizing and cherishing the positive

impact it holds around your community and local government, plus all of the

independent and unique products or services not found with big businesses

Review of Related Literature

This chapter presents the review of related literature and studies of the

sub-topics of this research: Small business and daily income.

Small business

"A healthy economy requires small business growth and

sustainability. When small businesses are healthy and prosperous, the

community-at-large benefits and prospers, too. " Said by Hales (2016). This

study discusses about the role of small business in the community. The first

paragraph entitled the small businesses is the backbone of the community , it

stated that most of of the employees job comes from a small business and

have been responsible for most of all the net job creation within the economy.

With this total , small businesses act a large punch that provide stability to

that country's workforce. According to the study in addition to privately owned

small businesses, franchised businesses have grown significantly over the

past decades. Franchised businesses such as restaurants, gas stations,

coffee shops, and retail outlets across the country provides millions of jobs

for the people and has nearly 50% of retail sails

According to the author small business owners are the men and

women who take their ideas and bring them to life. They are the backbone

of the community. They provide jobs for their neighbors, donate to local

charities, support community events, and do everything they can to ensure

their business provides goods and services the community needs and counts

on. The small businesses owners are the people who left larger companies in

order to pursue their own business goals. Opening a business is a

considerable risk, but business owners have become highly skilled at

managing these risks. That is due to better training, better education, and

greater access to information. Small businesses are also highly adept, flexible,

and capable of changing their operation to meet market needs. So they can

maintain their viability and vitality as the market changes and consumer

sentiment evolves. The paper also stated that Both big businesses and small

businesses together, they create a symbiotic circle that both require for their

viability.Big businesses provide an anchor of economic stability in a

community.

They provide large numbers of jobs that create the disposable income

small business depend on. Moreover, big businesses depend on the goods

and services small businesses provide their employees. All in all I think this

study servers its purpose to inform the people about the role of small

businesses in economic development.

Daily income
The early effects of COVID‐19 on small business and

entrepreneurs are not well known because of the lack of timely business‐level

data released by the government. This paper addresses this limitation by

creating estimates of the number of business owners from monthly Current

Population Survey (CPS) microdata files. Using these timely data, the

researcher examine how COVID‐19 impacted small business owners in

mid‐April 2020—the first month to capture the widespread shelter‐in‐place

restrictions in the United States. Then the researcher expand the analysis to

include the next 2 months as many states that had restrictions started to

relax those restrictions.

The CPS data are used by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to

track unemployment rates, and have been used in previous research to study

determinants of business ownership (e.g., recently, Fairlie & Fossen, 2019;

Levine & Rubenstein, 2017; Wang, 2019). The CPS captures the current work

activity of the business owner, and whether that business owner is currently

operating the business. Thus, the number of active business owners can be

captured in the data, but there is no way of telling whether these are

temporary or permanent business closures. Many of the inactive business

owners, however, are likely to permanently close their businesses especially if

the COVID‐19 induced recession is prolonged. Even temporary closures

caused by the pandemic are problematic because they reflect income losses

to business owners in those inactive months.

Chapter 3

Research Design and Methodology

This chapter consists of nine parts. It includes 1) Research Design, 2)

Methodology, 3) Data Sources, 4) Data Gathering Procedure, 5) Data Analysis

Procedure, and 6)Ethical Considerations.

Part one, Research Design, describes the overall strategy integrated to

effectively address the research problem.

Part Two, Methodology, offers a theoretical underpinning

forunderstanding the means and mode of data collection.

Part Three, Data Sources, enumerates the materials where data are

taken from.

Part Four, Data Gathering Procedure, discusses how the researcher

obtained her data.

Part Five, Data Analysis Procedure, involves procedures how data will

be treated.
Part Six, Ethical Considerations, presents how the researcher observed

the appropriate process in conducting research.

Research Design

This quantitative study encompasses a range of methods

concerned with the systematic investigation of social phenomenal ,using

statistical or numerical data ,The refore quantitative research involves

measurements and assumes that the phenomenal understud can be

measured it sets out to analyze data for trends and relationship and to verify

the measurements made.

Methodology

This chapter explains the methodology which is used in this study it

contains respondents of the study, research instrument, Validity and reliability

of the gathering procedure and data analysis.

Participants of the Study

The respondents in this study were compared of 3 or 5 respondents of

Brgy. Binaliuan Major to Brgy.Bayuco main road who owns small business.
Data Sources

In this study, the following are the sources of data:

1. Interview Questionnaire. This instrument as crafted after initial interviews

among the informants. The questions are presented in the interview consent

form which serves as follow-up questions to extensive treat the five research

problems. These questions are open-ended questions whichas well we took

the initiative of having those translated in Tagalog during theinterview

sessions.

2. Field Notes . Two field notes allowed us to keeping track of the ideas

observed and the methodologies that were carefully noted.

3. Published Articles . These were written documents which provided a jump

off point for the research to commence.Information taken from articles and

other trusted sites.

Data Gathering Procedures

Research data were collected from multiple sources such as

responders observation, field notes and interview that included individual

interviews. this method guided me in enhancing the validity and reliability of

the results. It ensured the accuracy of the interpretations and confirmed that

data collected will not be due to chance or circumstances.

After we obtain permission from the vendors to conduct the research,

we first introduce our seflves then inform them our purpose after that we then

ask our questions.

Data Analysis

In analysing the results, the data that was collected was first group into

their respected numbers according to the questions we ask.We then analyze

the the difference and the similarities of the datas collected to our hypothesis.

Ethical Consideration

In order to achieve ethical consideration in this study, we first ask

permition to the vendors before stating that we will not disclose any of their

answers to anyone. After they agree we then start asking them the questions.
