In recent machines, the marking parameters are stored in an electronic component (Dallas).

The digital Z axis is a third axis that carries out approach and backing off of the digital head. This axis may be
vertical or horizontal.

With this option, for each line in the parameter settings table of this system, you may enter a specific value for
Z positioning. This will enable you to skirt around obstacles; mark inside cavities, or on more or less domed
surfaces.

The Auto-Sensing kit is used for automating the Z axis: stylus automatic position with respect to the part to be
marked.

Accessory Z Binary
This is an « all or nothing » axis used for the approach and withdrawal of the marking head. The difference
compared to the digital Z axis is that there are only two different positions the « advanced » and « withdrawn »
positions. There is no possibility of obtaining different levels because the positions are determined by two
mechanical stops.

ACTIVATION PER LINE : (YES or NO)

OUTPUT NUMBER : Number of the output controlling this axis
WITHDRAWAL DETECTOR : Detects input number (if present)
WITHDRAWAL TIMER : Maximum time of actuator movement
OUTPUT DETECTOR : Detects input number (if present)
OUTPUT TIMER : Maximum time of actuator movement

It operates as follows in the course of a marking cycle:

 Positioning of stylus at the coordinates of the first point to be set

 Marking head approach
 Piece marking
 Withdrawal of marking head (while remaining within the coordinates of the last impact).
 Origin setting on the two X and Y axes

Example of Z pneumatic positioning

The head moves under the effect of a pneumatic actuator controlled by the marking controller.

It is noteworthy that if you wish to incorporate the machine into any positioning cycle, selecting the pneumatic
z axis may offer advantages. It is then simply necessary to wait for a head positioning request on the static relay
output and return the end of positioning information through a simple logic controller (instead of the travel end
detectors).
For instance, using this method, you can permit positioning at several levels so that the external logic controller
manages these levels.

Accessory D AXIS
The D axis is a peripheral of the marking machine permitting marking on cylindrical parts. It appears as a small
chuck allowing the rotation of the parts to be identified,

If your controller has a 3rd axis card you can set the parameters of the system so that this option may be used. To do
this, go to the configuration menu then the machine selection menu. You may then activate the use of the D axis
option.

Subsequently, in the parameter edit mode, you will need to enter the diameter of the part present in the chuck (this
parameter will be requested on the general marking parameters entry screen), so that marking can be performed
accordingly. If the D axis option is present in the system, but you want to carry out plane marking, enter the value
‘zero’ for the diameter of the workpiece.

For normal use of the D axis, it must be mounted to the left of the marking head and the axis of the part must be
aligned exactly with the X movement head.

MOVE-Z EDITION

Z: Movement to be made: A positive value moves the head up to the workpiece

A negative value moves the head closer to its origin position.
Noteworthy points: If Z > 0, the marking head will take position at point XY of the first impact before descending
If Z < 0, the marking head will rise before making the moves in X and Y

AUTO Z : machines equipped with a numerical Z axis + AutoSensing

D min : Minimum movement without encountering the workpiece

D max :: Maximum movement without encountering the workpiece
DZ : Stylus/workpiece marking distance
1st point: Sensing is carried out using the XY coordinate or at the first points to be marked?
Operation:
- Movement of the machine in Z over a stroke of D mini, then search for workpiece at low speed over a stroke
of (D max – D mini).
- If the workpiece is detected during the fast descent, or if no workpiece is detected during low speed
movement, the Z origin is resumed and the machine is declared defective.

Position : New coordinate of the axis

Functionning:
- Marking cycle starts: The controller runs the marking line until he founds the “movement” command.
- When process comes to this command, the axis moves to the coordinate (Crossed table doesn’t move)
- Cycle runs on next line.

b) MARKING ORIENTATION

The centering option is a way of centering the text with respect to the first marking point.
The Mirror option is a way of reading text in a mirror or through a translucent plate.

The marking orientation depends on the angle value chosen from the list (0, +90, +180, -90)

 Orientation = Horizontal
Depending on the X, Y, Radius and Angle parameters, several types of marking is may be selected:

 L’ entrée « Arrêt marquage » est disponible sur les connecteurs « START/STOP » et « I/O »
 Static relay : Switched current max=1A, Switched voltage max = 48V, Contact resistance < 100mΩ

 The « pause » output

The function of the "PAUSE " variable is to divide the marking cycle in several stages. Select "Alt" and "P" using the
keyboard once you are in the text area of the "EDITING" menu.
In order for the marking system to be positioned in the X and Y coordinates and then to pause before resuming its cycle,
you have to insert pause line with X and Y as coordinates.
In order to synchronize the events, use the input "Cycle Start " to acknowledge the pause, and positioning of an output,
described above, to indicate that the system is in the pause status.
Caution : this output is not of the same type as the others. It is a Static Relay output and not a potential free contact
output type.

Optimization of the logo:

This option lets you schedule the marking of the log’s individual dots in order to optimize the marking
cycle time. When activated, each dot will be counted by the “counter.”
The counter’s default setting will select the first dot drawn (shown in gray on the editing grid). Use the
arrows to the right of the counter to select the appropriate dots. Or simply type a number into the counter.
To change the scheduling of each dot, left click on the individual dot. Those previously scheduled will be
in green. The dot in progress will be in gray. The rest will be in black. Right clicking on a dot will move it to
the end of the marking cycle.

Simulation:

The logo is drawn using the specified order.

e) A Few Rules :

Rule N°1 :
The grid’s full size is 220 x 220 dots definition. For the best results, the logo needs to be maximized to fill
the grid (edge to edge, if possible).
Rule N°2 :
To ensure the highest definition possible, it is better to create several logos than to associate them in the
same marking file.
After having finished the creation of your logo, you will be able to use it with File Edit, by inserting a logo
line.

You can also load your logo directly to the controller using SIC File Manager.

7 - SIC LOGO EDIT VEC

a) Overview

SIC’s logo editor allows for the creation of vectorial marking files, or those made from drawings and
vectorised text (i.e. fonts that have been redrawn). For users familiar with advanced drawing tools (such
as AUTOCAD, SOLIDWORKS, VISIO, etc.) the logo editor will convert .dxf (ASCII mode only) files to .sic
files. The Logo Editor will adapt the scale of the logo.

Concerning the converting of .dxf files into .sic files, .dxf files can only be composed of the following:
o Lines
o Circles
o Rectangles

Important:
Objects containing certain drawing components, including multiline (multiple linked
segments), ellipse, text, …are not compatible.

The file to import should content only the logo to import. The others components (frame,
cartridge, other logos…) must be removed from the file.

In the Logo Editor window, you will find:

1. Drop-down file menus with a list of functions.
2. Command (icon) buttons that correspond to the main functions contained in the drop-down menus.
3. A window containing the object’s properties.
4. A preview window.
5. The drawing grid editing window.

the drawing width/height ratio'' is selected, the X and Y ratio will be locked.
in progress Location: Set the position of the logo on the X and Y axes.

Enables the insertion of a background picture. This must be traced using the
drawing tools above the editing window.
Background Hide the picture Temporarily hides the background picture in order to have a
picture view of the vectorial drawing done
Scale Provides the scale ratio and location coordinates of the picture.

Moves the Logo to the bottom left-hand corner (the grid's “home” position). This
optimizes the logo’s marking and precisely defines the loading point.

8 - OPTIMIZATION OF THE MARKING FILE AND SIMULATION

The following functions are only available with files saved in .sic format.

Optimization:
This option lets you schedule the marking of the log’s individual segments in order to optimize the
marking cycle time. When activated, each segment will be counted by the “counter.”
The counter’s default setting will select the first segment drawn (shown in red on the editing grid). Use
the arrows to the right of the counter to select the appropriate segments. Or simply type a number into
the counter.
To change the scheduling of each segment, left click on the individual segment. Those previously
scheduled will be in green. The segment in progress will be in red. The rest will be in black. Right
clicking on a segment will move it to the end of the marking cycle.

Simulation:
The logo will be drawn in the specified order (see “optimization” above).

9 - A FEW TIPS

Tip #1 :
The grid's full resolution is 220 x 220 dots. Sizing the logo to the entire editing window ensures the highest
resolution possible.

Incorrect Position

NOTREFE10V6US-R06.docx Translation of the original instruction 71/80

Correct Position

Tip #2 :
A better resolution is also possible with the combination of several Logos in the same marking file.

III - HISTORY FUNCTION

1 - FORWORD

The history function is:

- A data basis on the controller which will memorize the marking activity
- An utility on Windows which makes it possible to recover this base with the Excel or Access format
The controller works in an autonomous way, it is useless to plug a PC permanently: during the
production, the controller memorize the marking activity. At the end of the production, the marking’s
history can be recovered by connecting a PC to the controller

The history function is available in the software which version is E10 V6. This note is a complement
of the starting note E10 V6.

This functionality is not activated by defect. This avoids overloading the user interface by functions
unused.

This document describes the procedure to activate the history function in the controller, shows its use
and how to repatriate the data on a PC

2 - ON THE CONTROLLER

a) Activation of the function

By defect, the history function is not active. To activate it, it is necessary to enter in:
Controller Configuration: CONFIG  CONTROLLER.
Press + H , to activate or not the history

CONTROLLER CONFIG

HISTORY SETTING

The controller will automatically start again.

b) General Parameters.
Either you can access the parameter screen with the key board’s short cut: + H , or with the menu

Wrapping

- The first two zones (Char number per cycle to save et cycle number) allow you to estimate
the size occupied in the controller by the history.

- Both zones (History size and Free memory) are only as an indication.

- The Check for double zone allows you to authorize or not marking in double.

- The Wrapping zone allows you to authorize or not the defect of the history on itself:

NOTREFE10V6US-R06.docx Translation of the original instruction 75/80

If the zone is turned on YES: you have no control on the overflow, history will crush the
eldest data, to replace them be the most ones
If the zone is turned on NO: a signal will aware you when the history is 90% full, then prohibit
you a 100% from marking until recovery and obliteration starting from the PC.
You have to know that in this case, the control of double will be done with an empty base.

SPACING
ITALIC
ORIENTATION
MIRROR
CENTERING
Indexor
Into HIS

To save the marking line selected in the history, select Yes in the last zone: “Into His”

3 - REPATRIATION ON PC

a) main screen

Program to use: SicHis.exe :

Speed: speed corresponds to the speed of transfer once the connection established. The PC
automatically detects the speed of the e10 (or 9600 by default) then force speed with 56 700 on
e6 in order to transfer the data quickly.

Format: there are two possible formats:

Text: usable in Excel. The user can choose the separator.
Access: the user can choose the name of the table of the data base.

File: Name of the data base.

Loading parameters:
Add: Add current data base to PC.
Replace: Erase the current file.
