Standing in front of you all, i would like to deliver my speech under the tittle “HISTORY OF
WORLD WAR II”
World War II began in Europe on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. Great
Britain and France responded by declaring war on Germany on September 3. The war between
the U.S.S.R. and Germany began on June 22, 1941, with Operation Barbarossa, the German
invasion of the Soviet Union. The war in the Pacific began on December 7/8, 1941, when Japan
attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor and other American, Dutch, and British
military installations throughout Asia.

World War II, also called Second World War, conflict that involved virtually every part of the
world during the years 1939–45. The principal belligerents were the Axis powers—Germany,
Italy, and Japan—and the Allies—France, Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union,
and, to a lesser extent, China. The war was in many respects a continuation, after an uneasy 20-
year hiatus, of the disputes left unsettled by World War I. The Forty million until fifty milion
deaths incurred in World War II make it the bloodiest conflict, as well as the largest war, in
history.
In September 1939, the Allies were superior in industrial resources, population, and military
manpower, but the German Army, was the most efficient and effective fighting force for its size.
Germany had 100 infantry divisions and six armoured divisions, with a firepower of 442
machine guns, 135 mortars, 72 antitank guns, and 24 howitzers. The Allies had no armoured
divisions at that time. The six armoured divisions of the german army comprised 2,400 tanks,
which were organized into divisions and operated as such. Mechanization was the key to the
German blitzkrieg, or "lightning war" due to its unprecedented speed and mobility. The German
Air Force was also the best force of its kind in 1939, with its planes superior to nearly all Allied
types. The table shows the production of German aircraft by years.
Along with World War I, World War II was one of the great watersheds of 20th-century
geopolitical history. It resulted in the extension of the Soviet Union’s power to nations of eastern
Europe, enabled a communist movement to eventually achieve power in China, and marked the
decisive shift of power in the world away from the states of western Europe and toward the
United States and the Soviet Union.
