Today everyone knows what chocolate is and it is eaten by

millions of people all over the world. This is how chocolate
became popular. Hernan Cortes, a Spanish explorer, travelled
to South America in the 16th century. There he met Aztecs,
who served him a drink called “chocolatl”. “Chocolatl” was
made from a powder which was produced from cocoa beans.
Cocoa beans grow on cacao trees. Some cocoa beans were taken to Spain by Cortes. Later
sugar was added to the powder and a tastier drink was produced. Soon, it became popular all
over Europe. In the 19th century, milk was added by the Swiss and the chocolate bar that is
konwn today was produced. Since then, chocolate bars have been eaten by millions of people
all over the world. It is certain that chocolate will be enjoyed for many years to come.
